anyone got some experience with the bitsream3x from CME?
Yeah. Now THAT's confusing. I loved the feature set-can't recall what ultimately discouraged me-it was a while ago. I had one and returned it. Try downloading their manual-it was indecipherable.
When you follow the back-and-forth on the forums for automap do realize that people are troubleshooting. That suggests that you're sampling only the people with problems or those who are challenging the manufacture's intentions/limitations with the product by doing something advanced.
There are some outstanding problems with automap, but most people simply "go along" with how it's working, appreciate that they found a compromise between absolute assignments and a
modestly ergomatic design for grouping the mixer etc. and are probably NOT on the forum because they consider their equipment on some basic level to be "working".
What are the outstanding problems? well for one, only one device can use automap server. I've got the nocturn, can't justify using it for much, but figured I'd keep it for the x-fader and potentially a user-config or native VST MIDI control. My Remote Zero SL however, has plenty use, but I can't work it for Template 38 (automapped plugins) if the Nocturn is plugged in as well. I can't figure out how to let the SL take precident over automap, and Nocturn seems to only work with the virtual automap MIDI path?(what's the word I'm looking for, "routing"). That's why an open topic like this one exists.
Another problem is that it will make a mess of your preset folders. Not only that, but the auto-finder feature in live won't know what to do about it. Even cleaning up your folders won't help, because I can't find any obvious pattern for which pluggin it screws up and which doesn't. So just imagine using the finder or your SL to change or save a preset for your plug-in and getting bumped out of automap entirely.
Some things are not intuitive. (Ultimately, I think you want your controller to feel like a musical instrument-that doesn't have to mean that it's easy to play, but that it's musical, not computerish, in nature.) The Send focus buttons are not musical. To get the faders to focus on any returns you need to toggle them, one tap for Send A, 2 taps for send B etc.
What else? Your pluggin instruments and bigger effects will undoubtedly be automapped to something useless. A nuisance which can be used to your advantage, as you'll feel obliged to reassign them, getting yourself aquainted with the layout of your choice as you go along. But if you think "fader 5" is always going to be "envelope 1 release" for example, you might be disappointed.
What else just doesn't work about SL and automap?[/u]
