Blue Cat Audio free plugins now on Mac!

Post by bluecat » Fri Oct 17, 2008 6:35 am

Dear Live users,

Many of you have been pushing hard to get Mac versions of our plugins (see here). It's now time for you to work and try them because they are out!

We are happy to announce the launch of a public beta version of our freeware VST audio plugins bundle, Blue Cat's Freeware Pack. It is available for download for free on our website (www.bluecataudio.com).

Image
(click here for full scale image) - as you can see, we used Live for the sceeenshot.

The bundle contains 11 free plugins: a spectrum analyzer, an EQ, gain utilities with unique multiple instances linking capabilities, and several modulation effects. All are universal binary VST plugins, with full Cocoa user interface. Audio Units versions are expected later this year.

Blue Cat's Freeware Pack Plugins:
- Blue Cat's FreqAnalyst (spectrum analyzer).
- Blue Cat's Triple EQ.
- Blue Cat's Gain Suite.
- Blue Cat's Chorus and Blue Cat's Stereo Chorus.
- Blue Cat's Flanger and Blue Cat's Stereo Flanger.
- Blue Cat's Phaser.

System requirements:
- Intel or Power PC Mac
- Mac OS X Leopard (10.5)
- A VST-compatible application

Click here to download the free bundle for Mac (57 MB)

We are of course interested in your feedback. You can post in this thread or use our Mac beta thread in our forum.

We are especially looking for people with power pc processors (if it still exists...!) to try out these plugins. Note that the plugins are "beta" mainly because a few feature are missing, but they should be already quite stable.

More info about the limitations / issues in our Mac beta thread.

Sorry about that. It was a tough decision, but we basically made the choice of looking forward.

To be more technical, supporting OS X 10.4 would have meant going the "Carbon" way, which Apple unfortunately decided to deprecate for 64 bits applications.

First of all, thanks for these,

I was a little disappointed to see that the digital peak meter is not included in the mac freeware pack... I've been waiting for this to appear on the mac for awhile (and of course the pro version)

Any plans for the digital peak meter (pro) port for mac?

Cheers,

C.

In fact the free Digital Peak Meter has been discontinued. It is still here for PC (there was no point removing it from the catalog) but has not been updated for ages. We will update the website to make it clear.

The Digital Peak Meter Pro has superseded the old free version, and I guess anyway you will want the MIDI out support in Live. Automation only does not let you do real time control.

The Digital Peak Meter Pro is of course being ported to the Mac platform (ALL our plugins, except the old Peak Meter free are actually in work) as you can see below:

so it should be soon in your hands, don't worry!

Hi,

a quick update on these free plugins: a new beta has been released with several enhancements and fixes. The plugins are now feature complete. The final versions are expected in November.

What's new in beta 2 (October 30th):
- New skins with parameters value display for modulation effects.
- Improved graphical rendering performance.
- Improved graphs display.
- FreqAnalyst "Freeze" function fixed (now actually freezes the curves).
- MIDI control support with MIDI learn.
- Settings panel now available.
- Tooltips now implemented.

The new beta is available for download on our free plugins pack page. Your feedback is of course welcome!
