" Enjoy lively discussion, tips on using Live, priceless information about life in general "

Only on the Live forum can you learn new tricks to using Live, find surprisingly quick help for third party hardware/software, discuss politics and then exchange recipes!

If you're too busy to bake your own bread you need to get your priorities in order.

Try not to use only fine wheat flour. Spelt is good, so is rye. Don't use too much yeast and obviously don't add sugar.

...and remember that any bread that you leave to rise/rest over night will taste so much better. The last bread I made was baked over a period of 72 hours using only rye. Good stuff.

sour dough...
MMMmmm.... 8)

I worked in a place in London where i made a sour dough that i used for making pizza.
I let the first starter work for about three days, then held a small piece of the made dough back each time after that. You have to feed them, i used to give mine soft fruit, strawberries are the best, bananas will kill it. Also, they like the occasional beer.

Who would have known that this board was inhabited by bakers. Anyone else than Noisetonepause and Homebelly?

Don't know if anybody's mentioned this, but scrambled or basted eggs go amazing in corn tortillas heated in a pan with some oil or butter, with some pepper jack cheese melted on them. Eat them like tacos. We have these sprouted corn tortillas that are the best organic corn tortillas (FoodForLife). Can fill them with beans and steamed veggies, too. Delicious.

Or use sheets of sushi nori. Fold and break them into bite-sized chunks. Stuff them one at a time while you eat so they are crunchy and not soggy like sushi. Stuff them with salad or grains or anything.

Instead of rice cakes (blech) you can get corn cakes. They are thinner and better tasting. Similar to RyKrisps but cornier in flavor.

I love buttered bread with soup.

Well - I'm not a baker by trade either. Don't think Noisetonepause is either.

But I like to bake. Bread. And I like it to take time - preferably days.

Yeah, I bake a bit of bread as well! I usually go for Italian styles with olive oil, olives, sundried tomatoes in the dough. Mmmmmm.... thinking about lunch now. :)

Nice one lads.

1) Those who genuinely suggested bread alternatives.

Thanks! I will try those out. I like the idea of a solid crispbread that can take the weight of some decent ingredients.

2) Those who imagine I have time to eat meals at a table with nice pleasant conversation and company.

I don't, hence why I eat too much bread.

3) Thow who imagine I just eat shit bread

I don't. I bake my own at home and eat granary and wholemeal when the choice is available. Problem is I eat like that all the time. maybe i should be trying to make the time to sit down and eat properly...it's a valid point.

Ham, chicken etc. no good...I don't eat meat. (I'm not a veggie though, i do eat fish)

I like the idea of going grain free for a period and seeing w'appen. I bet it clogs you up mroe than you realise. I did one of those 48 hour detox thigns once (you only drink fresh squeezed OJ for two days) It made a difference i tell you, my nose was clear my stomach was less noisy etc.

I am originally from up north northern monkey, Durham. My mum always reminds me I was brought up on evaporated milk 8O and there's nowt wrong with that like.

On the note of the diversty of advice on the board...I had the misfortunte to attend the Abes tour at DV in clapham yesterday...jebus what a waste of time that was (although I got free stickers which is good) So reassuted that I know everythign there is top know about using Live i can focus ion dietary balance instead! :D

Pizza is OK btw, I make my own bases...but again./..at the the moment using wehat flour (albeit wholegrain)

Wheat everywhere, like its following me in my dreams!!! 8O

What tasty alternatives are there?
Salads. Not boring salads but creative ones.
