[OT] shipment from Germany help
Hi, I've just contacted a guy from Berlin who wants to sell to me (for a really good price) a piece of vintage hardware I was looking for since a looong time.
I'm in Italy, and I have to organize everything, because he says he doesn't have time.
So I have to contact some company to pick up the unit @ his home in Berlin and sent it to me in italy.
How can I do this (maybe online)? Which company is better? How much will it cost?

if you want to receive the gear in one piece, use TNT or UPS
(or at least having no trouble in case of insurance issues)
in the company i work in we ship from berlin everyday worldwide elektronic professional audio equipment to customers for rental. any other company we tried because of money, thinking we will save was a disaster.

Rather than going direct to the courier, try to find a website middle man like http://www.parcel2go.com/ (they are a UK company but they might be able to pick up and deliver between European countries as well).
If you go direct they will charge you a fortune, whereas someone like Parcel 2 Go gets their discounted rates and pass the savings on which saves you a lot of money.

I know it's strange.
Here's how this transaction should be:
1) I organize shipment - a courier in Berlin picks up the hardware.
2) meanwhile he gives me his IBAN number
3) after the thing arrives in Italy I tranfer the monei into his account.
The piece of hardware is a Roland Pg-1000 programmer, which he sells for 150 € - SHIPMENT COST INCLUDED, if it stays below 40 €
what do you think, in your experience?

i don't think it is strange... and any of the known shipment companies will do a pickup you can arrange from anywhere...Marcus_Hertz wrote:I know it's strange.

if i had to sell something and i would get a request from abroad, the buyer would have to arrange the transport... or simply no sell.
as i said we have good experiences with TNT and UPS, a UPS standard should be around 40 euro for about 20kg, or less... don't have the pricelist in my head as there are many options: standard, express, express plus and depending how it is packed extra handling charge... special insurance (which you both don't need in your case, just make shure he packs it really, really properly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in a cardboard box sufficient stuffed with bubble wrap or the like.
i just had an UPS express which is a bit over double price compared to standard and it was 43 euros for 20kg within germany.
p.s UPS standard is within 2-3 days, express is guaranteed until next day 10.30am
and express plus is guaranteed untill 8.30am next day.
prices from one to the other roughly are about double, and it goes after weight and country zones...
this is not 100% accurate but just to give you an idea...
