What to do about lead-ins?

Post by Jay Carr » Thu Oct 23, 2008 7:33 am

I've hit a snag in my Live obsessed life I'm leading right now... I've imported a bunch of .mp3 files that i'm dicing up and playing whole for some DJing I'm doing. A lot of my songs have short lead ins (example: "Please don't stop the Music" Rhinna).

The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to make the lead-in a full measure, and as a result I'm having to start a good 3 beats into the song which cuts off the first "please don't stop the--", so the song rather awkwardly starts with a "music!" and that's it.

So, what I want to do is extend the song a couple beats backwards so that I can make "music!" 2.1.1 instead of 1.1.1. That way I have a short lead in to the song and I can keep in sync with all the other beats I'm playing.

Warp is your friend.

It's in the manual.

if there is enough silence at the start of your file then you can set warp marker 1.1.1 before the start of the song and marker 2.1.1 where it belongs to mark the correct beginning of the second measure. If there is not enough silence, then you need to place the clip into arrangement and add silence in front of it by consolidating a selection containing some silence and the clip itself. This will write a new file/clip on your harddisk.

Ah, apologies. I did RTFM, but I think some of the details got lost in my mind...it was a long manual :( (yeah, it's no excuse...) Thanks for the patience and the answer.
