When I open up my Live 4 software I always feel like I don't know what is around the next corner, anything can happen. I don't want to come to this forum and find everything fractioned off into predictable little containers.
SEPERATE NON MUSIC RELATED FORUM PLEASE.....................
It will calm down. it probably never will totally go away, but as other have said, there is no point to splitting the forums up even further you just end up with forum sections no one ever visits and people keep posing in general because there is no one reading the little compartmentalized forums.
If you don't like the political topics then don't read them and don't post in them and eventually they will work thier way down the list to the end.
but this is a community and it's obviously a topic people in that community have wanted to discuss, hopefully without resorting to a flame war.

Funny, I see the problem in the opposite spectrum- The Off topic posts force the On topic posts to the bottom, then to the next page of posts on the General forum - makes finding that post you wanted on how you can rewire this into that (or something else) that much harder to find.bencodec wrote: If you don't like the political topics then don't read them and don't post in them and eventually they will work thier way down the list to the end.
.
For me, an off topic forum would be a good idea - it's better than banning political posts, which I would totally oppose.
I have changed my username; Now posting as:

I'd say there are a few reasons for keeping everything jumbled in together:
Having an "OT ban" in the main forum will make people too self-conscious to ever go on a tangent spontaneously - I liken it to being in a bar where the bouncer was monitoring conversations ready to redirect me to another corner of the room if I swayed a bit far from the "designated topic". What a beautifully efficient, organized, and utterly sterile bar that would be! If you want a forum with personality, we gotta accept a bit of non-music talk.
It may be a bit simplistic to say things like "there are plenty of other politics forums on the net", when the fact is that most people here are primarily interested in music and aren't gonna go join up to some hardcore politics forum just for an occasional rant, in the same way as I'm not gonna go join a computer forum for an occasional pc tweaking discussion.
IMO, it is actually quicker to browse one forum than multiple forums, and there are plenty of music-related posts that most people won't bother with if they aren't relevant to their music/gear/etc - I'm used to reading selectively and I don't find it a hassle.
And just to reiterate what others have said:
The rants are fading fast anyway
There's already a general subject forum, which is aptly titled "General"

Ok look people, you are getting it all wrong. Its not an "OT BAN" its just a dedicated section for political discussion which can get very indepth and would probably be better suited to its own section.
Its a big subject (aparently) so why not have a whole section to it? A battleground for people with opposing views and conspiracy theories. A place where you can voice your oppinion without worrying whether its on topic or not. A section where you don't have to write [OFF TOPIC] at the start of every single new thread.
MAYBE IM JUST A NEAT FREAK.

Moonburnt's put it pretty clearly and spot on there - just chill, it will pass, I'm glad the conversations been stirred, rather that than feel like we're a bunch of hollow sheels who dont give a stuff about the sorry state of thingsMoonburnt wrote:I'd say there are a few reasons for keeping everything jumbled in together:

I have lurked here for the longest time but not posted till recently so I'll defer to experience if let it lie works, lets do that.forge wrote:Excellent points. While i am a big advocate of keeping it relevant there is lots of value in levity and diversion. I'm not at all in favor of supression or banning this. If we are better served by a seperate section for such discussions lets get it done! If we will let things subside as the more experienced have indicated then lets do that. My personal vote is for seperate section, I'll use it! I reckon the "objection of our infection" is as big a wickethead as has walked the planet, an anti-role model if you will.Moonburnt wrote:Having an "OT ban" in the main forum will make people too self-conscious to ever go on a tangent spontaneously - I liken it to being in a bar where the bouncer was monitoring conversations ready to redirect me to another corner of the room if I swayed a bit far from the "designated topic".
