Again, how long does it take to reboot the computer? A friend of mine performs with a desktop, and the genny at one gig did not put out stable enough voltage. The PA and scratch amp djs went out just fine, but after an hour of fuckign around and wondering if the bass was unseating any of his cards or drives or whatever, he gave up. Worked fine in the studio...Machinesworking wrote:? How is that going to be different with a laptop? Are you saying if the power to your computer only goes out, but the DI and the the PA are OK? Honestly how many times has only the stage outlets gone down, but the PA is running? Not a good reason to discount a rack mount IMO.DGA wrote:Again, do you want to carry around a ups or would you rather carry a few laptops, because if the power goes out for any reason during a show, you are looking at the longest minutes of your life while everything reboots.
Now trying to drag a rack to your parents house for christmas etc. that's a good argument for a laptop.
yoyek - yes, one laptop for audio, one for video
i bought my first laptop 2.5 years ago. it was not top of the line or anyhting, but im not sure i'll ever go back to a desktop unless i am sure the computer will never move.
