Linking PC to MAC via LAN

Post by C-Boy » Sat Nov 06, 2004 10:39 am

Im stuck, help!!!

Ive been able to connect a mac OS 10.something to PC XP PRO SP1 and the computers can both ping each other, but i dont get any midi in signal to either (but both will output midi signal).
Im using MIDIoverLAN CP (same version on both computers)
This setup worked fine for two PC's on XP Pro Sp1, (but not SP2 - issue with LAN cards)
Assume i know how to set up this correctly as the settings worked for PC to PC.

Is there anything else extra that needs to be installed on the Mac or PC to connect the two ( i have MIDIoverLAN on both and Ableton 4 on both) ?

Is there any other software i could try on both as a midi replacement (like MIDIoverLAN) ?

Thanks in advance.

Okay, ive just noticed that my mac doesnt meet the minimum requirements for MIDIoverLAN CP . Requirements are g4 400mhz, i have a g3 400mhz  more than likely my reason for this not working.

Does anyone know another app. that i can use on mac & PC to midi sync over LAN? and can the program be a different one than the PC as long as i use the same port?

Okay, one small problem......

I can send and recieve midi signals from the PC, but cannot send signal from mac to PC (mac will only recieve). Anyone know how to correct this so i can send midi from the mac?

Same settings as above, this all works on PC to PC.

Thanks a mint.

BUMP

Does anyone know why the Mac will only run as slave to the PC and wont work the other way around?

Please?

Dude:

I think the latency with MidiOverLan CP 2 is terrific. I had my virus C connected to one PC and was sending and receiving huge amounts of SysEx from Cubase SX running on another PC. I tried to crash it, hell I would have setteled for a little stumble, but it just kept running find. No data lost, dropped, or adversely affected.

My network is hard set to 100 Mbps, Full-Duplex and is static IP. I have both a Cisco netpix and Siemens Speedstream router / firewall between me and the internet. So, my network is pretty well optimized
