Recording with external instrument

Hey i am using a midi keyboard and using the drum kit from the keyboard. When trying to record I use the external instrument function but when i record it, it plays back on my keyboard speakers. I use external intstrument to get the sounds from the drum kit that is on my keyboard. I was just wondering how i can record to the actual program. Sorry i am new to the program and will probably have more questions haha.

insert a separate audio track and route the audio from your instrument

ok so i would record and then inset it under audio track correct?
