obama wins!!!!!!!
In better times i think he would be a very good president - just a shame he's left with such a mess. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next 12 months once he's settled in and the hype dies down. A lot of what happens now is out with his control (i mean the state of the world economy).Emissary wrote:sorry for being a downer, i just dont see how he is going to "change" anything. Just as much as Mcains was a saggy sack of putrid goo, Obama is a balloon of concentrated helium. i will judge his time as president after the fact not before it. I hope he "changes" things but i see no proof that he will in anything he has said. It will be interesting to see how he copes with the huge international incident a few weeks after his inauguration .elxicano wrote:Emissary wrote:congrats on having your first bi-racial president america. Bla, bla, bla... Emissary, you are the George Bush of the forums. Go get em' tiger! Nothing like a preemptive strike! "Let's all save time and complain about how bad things are before he even gets started!" WooHoo!
Nothing but love for you, Emissary!
some times you just have to switch off the cyncial Victor Meldrew miserable bastard side of yourself and just enjoy the party and optimism once in a whileEmissary wrote:sorry for being a downer, i just dont see how he is going to "change" anything. Why has it taken 20+ years to actualy 'get up & stand up'?
Lets hope the age of apathy has truly ended.
Big respect to all the Americans that voted, hope the rest of the world tales inspiration from this.

Now, as Meef so eloquently put it:
STFU and make some tuneage.

This is all quite amazing. I wasn't exactly holding my breath this time - I've
learnt to expect the American voters to disappoint me in the deciding
hours, despite positive polls. This time they came through, big time,
though
I'm no essentialist, but it really feels awesome that the U.S. finally
managed to break out of the white, male president pattern. (In fact; isn't
he the first black head of state in the entire West? Hah - back at the
vanguard, eh? Finally some real progressive moves in the US). Obama
apparently has what it takes to mobilise the significant, disillusioned (and
normally) non-voting masses.
Small step / giant leap, etc. When the US gets its first lesbian, atheist 1/2
Afro American / 1/2 Hispanic President, we're there
Good bye and good riddance to Bush. Good luck to Obama!

I am not cynical , just a realist. I have plenty of joy and excitement in my life to not be overly hyped and excited about someone who has yet to have achieved anything. In 4 years if America has reduced its national debt, stopped borrowing money from the rest of the world to buy products off the rest of the world, brought its troops home and begins to act like a country rather than a tyrannical empire then i will eat my hat. Unfortunately the mass hysteria that seems to be spreading over the world about Commander Obama and his "change" is more dangerous than 8 years of Bush (and thats saying something)forge wrote:some times you just have to switch off the cyncial Victor Meldrew miserable bastard side of yourself and just enjoy the party and optimism once in a whileEmissary wrote:sorry for being a downer, i just dont see how he is going to "change" anything. Yeah. America elects a married, Christian lawyer from a middle class background. California bans gay marriage.Emissary wrote:Unfortunately i fail see to one drop of evidence of this promised "change" can someone enlighten me?
Let's just say I'm not celebrating.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.
