your hardware mixer should have a record rca out. route that into your soundcard, set up a corresponding channel in live and set it to in. then arm and record a clip on it. voila. your mix.

What soundcard are you using with the Macbook? you can record your mix into Live (re-routed from the mixer) or with Soundstudio without problem. :D . I think you have to set the Aux out in the mixer to "Post fader". I don have a Xone but a ZED14, I assume all the Allen & heath mixers works the same.

Recording XONE mixes

Post by colossus » Wed Nov 05, 2008 5:34 pm

Hi y'all.

I've recently got my hands on an XONE 4D. Lovely sound quality, and versatile - in that our sound system can happily use a mixture of decks, CDJs, and laptops through the one mixer.

I've discovered how to route the master output back into Ableton (using input channels 7/8 - not sure if XONE 3D is the same). However - the sound quality of the recording seems greatly deteriorated from the master output I'm hearing through the speakers. I don't mind it being a bit quieter - that can be corrected - but the sound seems muffled and lacking in brightness. Any suggestions as to why ? I'm only using the basic 44100 bitrate, but surely the DACs on the XONE shouldn't degrade the sound so obviously ?

Very few people..even in pro studios are using analogue mixers like they used too, I prefer to recordin direct/flat, and then tweak the sounds to high heaven later...although I do have a 48 channel mixer, im using it less and less, the digi age is upon us!
