Giorgio Moroder Sequences

Post by cosmosuave » Thu Nov 11, 2004 1:44 am

How does one go about making those cool Giorgio Moroder bass sequences like the one found in Donna Summer's I feel Love... Also did he not do the Midnight Express soundtrack....

I have been trying to recreate those sequences for ages but have yet to get close...

What I have been doing is making a 16 step sequence (16th note) then adding a note here and there a 3rd or a 5th up the scale...

Should the sequence follow the hihats?

I will try to represent what I have been doing via ASCII...

This is the 16 step sequence

1 - - - 5 - - - 9 - - - 13 - - -

Let o = notes..... I have to put in under scores so it formats correct for the posting

_______________o
___o
o o____o o o__o o_____o o o
1 x x x 5 x x x 9 x x x 13 x x x

Hope this makes sense....or if someone has a midi file they can send me....

simple, grab your midi keyboard, put six fingers on it and alternate between 2 octaves playing 16th notes.

to make it easy to understand play this d3 d4 d3 d4 a3 a4 c3 c4 really fast. you'll get the idea when you hear it.

is that what youre after?

I know what your saying but what your describing is octave bass walking...Disco bass... I find I always get a fast response here at the Ableton forum... Not to slag the live pa forum..

Hmmm not at the moment I'm at work but jammin on the laptop.... Are you not familiar with Donna Summers "I feel Love" trak... A lot of electro uses the same kind of bass line...

Ha, that's a great track. (the original)

I'm playing by memory on the keyboard but It's sounds like it's

c2c2c2c2g2g2a#2a#2 repeated endlessly .Basic pattern at least. The rest is variation. Sound like an arpeggiator kind of thing.

Ha, you have to try this with Energy xt's arpeggiator. Just enter that sequence and do the chords changes. Same stuff!

Download the beta if you don't have it.

then ya play C D# F G with the arpeggiated pattern above.

Is there any way of using energy xt as a midi plug in in Live? I want to use only the arpegiator of energy xt. So I want energy xt the midi back to Live, like a Live midi fx. Is that posible?

Thanks

Hello,

Yes you can, It works has VSTI, VST effects and stand alone (asio) and it's constantly updated. It's funny cuz I bought it yesterday after playing with the arpeggiator.

You can also patch midi plugins in it and you have an included sampler that does beat slicing. But all this is nothing, it can do a whole a lot infinite possibilities due to it's modular routing.

I suggest you check this thread at KVR:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55793

You can download manuals and tutorial from that link cuz documentation by the developer is virtually non existent.

This prog is a definite gem and the price is ridiculously cheap.

Enjoy and let me know what you think of it.

By the way, I don't think you can use the arpeggiator only you have stick a vsti inside of Energy XT for it to play. Energy XT does send midi to the output but I think ableton live can't use midi plugins yet.
