Presonus FireStudio Project Issues

Post by deeplfo » Sun Nov 02, 2008 7:48 pm

Hi,
Just got my Presonus device and Live 7.0.10 has all sorts of problems; drop outs galore (and not always associated with sync loss from the audio device), momentary red message in the bottom claiming audio device has stopped, etc.

I was deciding between the above interface and the M-Audio 2626, and since I don't need that many inputs I went with the less expensive Presonus. Now I'm wondering if I should have gone with the M-Audio device. But the Presonus does sound good.

Also, on the same machine I have Cubase 4 installed and it works flawlessly with FireStudio Project. Needless to say I've tried basic changes to see if things work out (e.g. buffers) but nothing is helping Live for some reason?

Any hints, ideas, ...?

Thanks,
Mohsen

bump.

I'm curious to see what other peoples experiences are so far with the firestudio project. I was considering selling my firepod and buying on of them, as I get some audio issues with some synths - sometimes random latency jumps where it suddenly becomes worse.

I've got problems with my Firestudio 26x26 it won't work with Live at all, when you switch to the Presonus ASIO in Live it turns off the sound engine for Live.

Have you both joined the Presonus forum and asked any questions there?

I did join the Presonus forum and have posted regarding this issue. One person replied that they went to a different machine and it seemed to be ok. But I am not convinced it's a hardware issue, since as I said before my Cubase 4 works fine on the same machine with the Presonus drivers. I'm going to give it a couple of more days of chasing down any solutions, otherwise I may have to return the unit and go the M-Audio (or some other brand) route.

Mine works ok with my Cubase 4 as well, maybe its Abletons fault eh?

Its a driver issue when it comes to using it with Live, maybe :?:

I don't need an audio interface with this many i/o's on it but I won mine in a comp so I can't return it :(. No f$$ker wants to buy it either!! Not that I'm ungrateful for winning it that is, it just caused me quite a headache that's all.

I haven't updated to the latest drivers, going to do that now. Its all fun and games innit?.

I just helped a friend get his Firestudio Project going on Vista....it was hellish but the Presonus people were able to get us through it. The main problem was that I accidentally installed drivers for Firestudio first, instead of Firestudio Project. It was a difficult process getting those drivers completely uninstalled. After that it has worked fine for the past week.

Kind of doesn't help us who only had FS Project installed and didn't need to uninstall anything else. Was there anything else that you needed to modify?

thx,

FYI, I also tried using the ASIO4ALL v2 driver and same thing in Live. Not good.

Drivers also didn't work until we installed the most up to date drivers, and had to make sure that the Presonus unit was selected in the Sound & Audio Devices menu in Windows control panel. Sorry I don't have more to offer...

Yeah I tried that too, didn't work for me either. I had my FS connected to my firewire port on my EMU 1212m soundcard, probably not doing me any favours doing it that way.

I decide to cut the chase short and so replaced the unit with an Echo Firewire8 interface. Sounds really nice, and works great. I also tried out the M-Audio ProFire 2626 and to my ears the Echo sounded sooo much better.

I was having all sorts of problems installing the latest drivers, this time I turned off my wireless internet connection and BAJango! it installed with no problems and now my FS works great!! I have no idea if the wireless had anything to do with it or not, all I know is that it WORKS god damn it!! :D

I own the Firestudio and overall it has been solid over the last year or so. The only issues that I have had where due to wireless networking but that is the same with just about any firewire audio device.

Presonus like Motu won't work with certain firewire/motherboard combos. Are you running VISTA or XP?
