Are you sure quadcore is worth it? I've never really gotten a clear answer as to whether Ableton (plus plugs) scales efficiently (or at all) to more than two cores (and would love to know.)

here's you clear answer:

Yes, Live make full use of all 4 cores by adressing every track to one of the
cores.

right..

when did these go on the market?
i bet some of those rich whores over on gearslutz already own one lol

we need a lappie for stage but it will be my girlies lappie too
she will use it for her production/personal at home and then we will use it as our performance compter on stage (so i dont have to bring my dang server rack anymore lol)

if it was my computer i'd deal with windows and never get online with it but it will be her computer and i'm the "band tech support" too so i talked her into getting a mac book pro so i wouldn't have to have to worrie about it.

i hear vista is doing ok..

the other conceren i have is the fw port.. the presonus firestudio seems a bit of a snob when it comes the fw connections lol.

man a quad would be sickness..
worried about noise and heat though too

i'm sure a mac pro would be fine though...ahh this sucks hehe i was all decided now this.. funny thing is if i change my mind i have to convince my girl its a good idea too.. she's all in love with the idea of getting a mac book pro now.

It sucks that the Mac book no longer has FW. To get a MAC book Pro with the same relative features it would cost me $3,500, and I can't get RAID on a MAC book/ Pro. :(

The quad core will be sweet!

I remember when the duo core laptops first hit the market there were a couple of PCs - then a week or two later Apple announced the first MacBook and MacBook Pro. With any luck Apple will follow suit just as quickly this time too. If and when Apple comes out with a MBP with 4 cores, a matte display, Expressport and FW800 - then they get my money.

its April acquisition of semiconductor company PA Semi. Now, the recent hire of former IBM executive Mark Papermaster -- a key player in developing the PowerPC chips used in the previous generation of Macs -- suggests that Apple has bigger plans, perhaps including manufacturing its own desktop and notebook chips

Mac is going to start making its own chips and ditch IBM and Intel all together. My AMD rep says that their are talks about an AMD Mac. That would be totally sweet because AMD smokes Intel in any RAM intensive application.

I have had hardware RAID 0 on my laptop since 2005, and it is SOOOO worth it. You wouldn't believe how much faster tracks load into Ableton when you've got 2 drives working together.

Just make sure you back up your music often. You will be more vulnerable to crashes.
M-Tech D900T laptop, 17" WSXGA+ wide-screen, Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHz HT (600 series) 2 MB cache, 2048 RAM (Dual Channel DDR2 PC4200 533 MHz), Dual hard drives: 80 gig x 2 = 160 gig SATA 5400 rpm (RAID 0 config)
Korg Zero 8 mixer/soundcard/MIDI

Considering that is Vista only and you can still get White Macbooks with FW, whats the problem?

Quad is nice....if you can get it to work.

Why do you want a RAID, you playing back 200 tracks? I play back 50+ tracks on my internal 5400 drive on my MBP.
