Cleaning my laptop screen...

Post by weeddigger » Wed Nov 19, 2008 5:57 pm

So without looking for some specially made juice and pads to clean my MBP screen, what else could I use? What should I not use?

I've cleaned the actual laptop's casing with an alcohol dipped cloth, that cleared smudges and what not, but I'm not too sure I should take that to the screen...

Thanks for any info.

iClean = snake oil. absolutely no need for it.

try:
1x microfibre cloth (£1.50 from Wilko's here in UK)
sprinkle of tap water

dampen a corner of the cloth, squeeze out the drops, clean screen with damp corner, and finish off with the dry bit. you've just saved a tenner. go buy beer.

Just kidding. Yeah, any microfiber cloth, like an eyeglass lens cloth, or camera lens cloth, will do the trick. All that screen cleaner stuff is a joke.

I use the same cloth I use to clean my glasses and the same spray

poached this answer from Cnet.

Never use a cleaning agent such as Windex on your LCD. Those cleaners often contain ammonia, which can, over time, damage your display's panel. A slightly damp, lint-free cloth, like the ones included with eyeglasses, or a microfiber cloth should do the trick. Never use paper towels! If you see streaks, follow the damp cloth immediately with a dry one. You can moisten the cloth with plain water or a commercial LCD panel cleaner, available at office supply stores. These commercial cleaners are often just 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water mixtures, so clearly, you can mix that yourself and save a couple of bucks. Just remember never to spray any liquid directly at your screen. Moisten the cloth instead.

Want free food?

From Burger King...

OK, here's what you do.

Get a relatively new receipt from BK, from the current month preferably. On the back of the receipt you should have an offer for a free Whopper or Chicken Sandwich.

A bit of a catch from BK of course to get your freebie (you have to call and do a survey, which can take around five minutes, and possibly more to complete). Once you complete their survey, you can get one of the free sandwiches (cheese is extra!!!!) as long as you buy any sized soda and any sized fries/onion rings.

That's the catch.

It's annoying, but worth it.

...

And now, if you don't mind a bit of jumping through thru loop holes, there's a way to get your freebie without having to call the survey all the time.

How's this?

Simple, because the kind of code you get by calling is a seven character code consisting of two letters, and five numbers, in that order. The letters only change once per month, and the numbers appear to be random.

So...

If you called right now , and the code they gave you was FF 87654, you know that anytime you call during the current month, the code they give will start with FF, and then have five random numbers.
So...

Only having to call once a month and jumping through BK's loop hole, you can get Free Whoppers or Chicken Sandwiches all the time!!!
