Yup!, The main thing that has put me off buying so far is the lack of any mdii recording ability. Although I am still going to buy it.

Perhaps Ableton may wish to consider Ableton Studio version as well as the current Live version?

Having only tried the demo which I think is fabulous btw, it still leaves me with no option but to sequence with Logic (in my case) then bounce down the audio files which will be a time consuming process.

Of course I have the option of Rewire, but I have yet to get a rewire app working smoothly within Logic, and to be perfectly Honest I hate using multiple programs.

Even if Live only had 16 midi tracks and a simple editor for midi that would be cool.

heres hoping in the future :)

some ideas for midi seq "midi sample playing"

Post by monotonsystem » Sun Nov 17, 2002 1:48 am

here are our ideas about how to design live with built-in midi seq.:

Session View: we think it would be great to have not only audio tracks, but also midi tracks where you can launch midi clips as same as audioz.
In the track´s preferences you can set a basic out channel(like setting audio out channel) or even link it to vst-instruments, and also midi-in for recording some midi-shit.
In the clip you must be viewed a small midi note editor with a keypad on the side (like cubase,...) where you can write your clip and define the lenghts of it. It must have also have start /stop/warp marker like audio clips and transpose and so on, and somewhere on the left side you can make settings for its midi out channel/port.
Arranger: midi-tracks can be edited as audio tracks with the difference that you´ll see your midi - editor. Your clips can be build as midi-events to arrangement, like classic sequencers.
and in the effects section is still place enough for midi effects, like midi delay and and and :-)
we think with this, it won´t damage the easy-handling of live. launching midi as clips would be the easiest way to combine with live´s engine.
what do you think? some other ideas? please reply

MIDI NO!

I'm really glad that there's no MIDI in live. I have A LOT of MIDI gear, and it seems that using live is a different way of doing things that feels good for that very reason. If Live did have a MIDI component, I would like to be able to switch it off COMPLETELY. Not that I wouldn't have a use for it, but I'm getting sick of MIDI. Let's move on.

Clip based Midi sequencing would also solve the problem of pads and basslines getting cut. when using long pads they are not supposed to stop, they have to fade out on their 'release', so midi-clipbased sequencing would solve this immediatly ...
now I only need to get some decent VST's or hardware ... :?

Dragon, your opinion is pointless. I´s obvious that you dont know what you are talking about.

I could be really cool!!!

I would like to have the midi-sequencing implementation in live.
However I know that It's not cubase/nuendo or logic...
I used to send midi-pattern to drummachines and synthesizers in live performance...

don't need live for midi either. something of an oxymoron anyways.
