My 3 year old's first composition!!!

Post by ollyb303 » Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:17 pm

I promised my son Finley that I'd post this here and see what people think.

This is his first composition using Ableton Live - he's only 3, so be prepared for music that sounds like it was made by a 3 year old!!

Link: HERE

Made using Operator (presets), Impulse and Bass-Station.

I set up the tracks for him to record midi and helped him with the browser (he knows he wants a bass, he knows he likes Operator, but he can't read and doesn't know how to spell Operator!!) - the rest is all his own work...

It's called "Finley's Band"

errr..... enjoy?

On the DL, sounds interesting :) Thinking about it made me smile. My nephew (almost 2 now!) loves coming over and hitting keys on the controller.

You can literally hear the energy of a 3 year old. I bet he couldn't sit still for more than 5 minutes...

He started at about 7 this evening, I think he'd mixed it down by 7:15, then he went to play with his cars!

Grand! He just won the 15 minutes challenge! :D
HAL: I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.

Wow, 15 minutes, not bad, he's patient! And was he happy with his creation? Because that's what matters most...

Yeah he likes it, he wants to work without loop turned on tomorrow though. More freeform! 8O

just whatever you do don't play him French house / electro in the justice daft punk mode, sounds like you could have a future electronic music fiend in the aphex / squarepusher mould.

Kids are impressionable at that age and if he heard a sidechain in action that could be the gateway drug :)

Fuck I wish i got into electronic music at that age!

Music is basically a language when you have mstered your instruements and kinds pick languages up very quickly

cool stuff.
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

Very cool :) I also wish I got into music a much earlier age than I actually did. I think back to how I absolutely despised the piano lessons that my parents signed me up for, and now I realize how stupid I was being.

Haha! Richard D. James is the first thing I thought of when we listened to it back!

I don't have a mic, so I wired up the headphones for him to sing into, but he was too tired by then. Maybe the next track will have a vocal...

Thanks for the comments, he'll be well chuffed when I read them to him later :D
