help me pick a controller that does this

Post by smartabletonuser » Thu Nov 27, 2008 11:48 pm

I need one that does this:

1) enables me to look at Live as little as possible
2) Will tell me if an effect is on/off and what position it's at
3) Will tell me which clip(s) are playing
4) Allows me to send effects and make level adjustments
5) Looks cool
6) ideally has some sort of text or track readout communication with Live

So wht is it? A lemur? Faderfox? Novation? MPD32? I dont have time to try them all out and I don't like my time being wasted goddammit!

never used a Lemur, but a Novation Remote Zero would come pretty close, except for telling you which clips are playing. 5/6 aint bad!

well, here's a copy of the correspondence that I had with Behringer... This might help a little, and the BCR2000 always gets great reviews, even when other Behringer stuff doesn't.

-------------------------
QUESTION TO BEHRINGER:

I own Ableton Live 7.0, I have a MAC... Would I be correct in saying that with the B-CONTROL FADER BCF2000 I can:

1) with the 4 bank of 16 illuminated buttons, I can assign each bank of 16 to track 1-16's track "mute, solo, select, or record" respectively... and THE light would illuminate when I each element is active (when a track is mute, when a track is soloed, when a track is recording, etc), and de-illuminate when it is not... and I can switch banks (from mutes to solos, for example), and the appropriate track light would be either illuminated or not, but based upon the CURRENT bank's assignments

2) Having motorized faders means that as
A. As track volumes change, the faders go right with it
B. As I change "banks" of faders (from track 1-8 to 9-16, for example), the corresponding volume of each track automatically is moved to the corresponding location by the fader

3) Am I correct in saying there are 4*16 button banks?

ANSWER FROM BEHRINGER:

1) There are 16 buttons and eight encoders above eight motorized faders. The eight encoders (knobs with lights) can be a total of 32 encoders, by switching them with the four buttons to the left of the encoders. They can be programmed to do something different when pushed and turned or just turned.

These can all be assigned to whatever you wish. The buttons can be momentary, or toggled. Momentary means the buttons will only send a command when held down, while toggle means push once for on and again for off. The lights will follow this.

Please keep in mind that the BCF2000 will operate in either EMULATION MODE or BC EDIT MODE.

You can only program the controls in BC EDIT MODE.

EMULATION MODE is a collection of presets that are mapped for the most popular DAWS.

2) A.Yes
B. Yes

3) Please see above.

--------------------

note: I also found out that there is up to 64 presets, meaning all the controls can be assigned to 64 different templates, and the presets can change INSTANTLY... so, you want 16 toggle buttons for on/off for mutes, then 16 for effects, then 16 for solos? This can be done... No other controller I've found (besides some real expensive ones) gives this felxibility mixed with illumination/toggle/reference...

ignore the "16 faders comment" from BEhringer --- originally this ? was about the BCF2000, not the BCR2000. They are essentially the same, with the main difference being fader-based verses rotary/knob based
