ableton and orionpro/ platinum
Hi guys,
I'm thinking of buying orion platinum or pro , mainly because they support vsti. I^d like to play on some softsynth, record it in orion and send it to live to jam. Has anyone done this and does it work?
Any comments appreciated
And if it doesnt work what other cool software would work beside cubase and logic(too expensive) on the PC .
Thanks Dirk

If you get Orion Platinum you can use Live as a rewire slave and route the audio from Live into Orion so you can play along with your VSTi's/DXi or add FX to the Live tracks etc..
(you will get Stereo L/R and bus 3- 15 on the Orion mixer from Live)
Orion is not a rewire slave, only master so you cannot route the audio from Orion to Live.

When you combine both apps together, Live really is used as a vsti along with others in Orion.
If you decide to get OPlat, I advise you pick up a little utility called "on top" at download.com (its free). It allows you to keep Live's window on top (!!) while you click inside orion to tweak vstis and mixer. Without it, the sound may stutter if you go from one prog to the other.
This is a great setup I do not hesitate to recommend. Its a very intuitive and simple way to work. I usually run a couple of reaktor ensembles in orion, along with Live and compose this way. the downside is I havent found a better way to record than to fire up "soundforge" and record in .wav. It helps to have a dual screen setup if you work like this.
good luck

Mind that only Orion Platinum is Rewire enabled (the site is a little unclear on that) .
if you only want to make clips etc to assemble/work out in Live, OrionPlatinum will be overkill, go for OrionPro.
It's just my personal opinion that orion (pro - have no experience with platinum) is not the stablest of packages for reallive use. Ideal for constructing loops/samples/etc and studio use, but tends to be glitchy by times (have using Orion since the early 2.x releases - so must be happy somewhere

Hello,
I have tried the Live 2.0 demo inside OrionPlat and found the following :
Orion inserts 16 mixer strips, but none of them have audio just the R/L mix strips.
syncronization in session mode is absolutely useless(everytime you hit play in Orion, Live starts playing at a different time) most likely not Orion's fault.
In the arranger view, Live starts playing ok, but you can't loop...
Was 1.5 working ok and now it is not ??
Would like to purchase Live, but not so sure after seing the rewire slave is no up to snuff.
Cheers !
