Image
This thread is about the Novation Remote 25SL - using it
LIVE and preferably mouselss.

It will be set-out as a 4-Track controller with the layout above.

Ideas to consider:
- Controllerism and Modifications
- Mouseless DJing
- Templates or Automap
- LivePA AND DJing
- Audio and Midi TRACK Routing
- MIDI CTRL Effects and Dummy Clips
- VST's FX + Instruments
- Ableton MIDI FX

This is intended to be a project for creating a controller for just
1. a Novation Remote
2. a soundcard
3. a Laptop
To use for a Live-PA out at clubs n parties.

I would like to keep this as Ableton as possible so I will try and use
Ableton FX and instruments for an Ableton only song-setup too.
But BeatLookUp is gonna be pretty impossible to do in ABleton because of the buffering control with the drum pads on the Remote...
So i guess thats at least one that is gonna slip through to avoid mapping clips etc.

I also have a Korg PadKontrol and I want to get the same SetUp going for this,
then look at a combined SetUp once i get these two cranking along by themselves.

So I will be adding any suggested information and If all goes well
I will have a video and explanation of what I come up with for my Live set this NYE.

Best live setup I've developed for myself is to open up the MIDI CC output channels through automap 2.0, setup all or most of the buttons to step size "0" for hold action instead of toggle and assign all the fx/instrument parameters that I want on the fly through those. Then I use a trigger finger (or theoretically maybe the low octaves of the novation keyboard) to trigger clips. This setup allows me quicker access to parameters over a broader range of controls (instead of being limited to a particular effect or instrument at a time) but gives me the flexibility of automap 2.0 to control how each control works and the quick ability to switch in between templates if need be.

Sounds good mate

Do you assign the buttons to the on/off of the fx ?
I was thinking I should see if using racks would help and then assigning
the 4 sections of keys on a higher octave for FX triggers.

How do you have your templates arranged ?
I was looking at switching templates when i need to but I wanna keep it simple/stable, so only three or so.

At the moment I have
- The Mod set to delay for fills.
- The Pitch set to HPF and LPF and middle as no filiter.
- XY set to Beat-Repeat for glitch-fills.
- Faders for channels 1-4.
- Last 2 Fader for FX send and Master.
- 2 faders for Reverb ammount and a Beat repeat value.

I am thinking about what to do with the rest now...
- DrumPads for Beat LookUp beat juggling ?
- Octave-Up keys for Racks - Effect triggering.
- Knobs for Operator/Analogue/Tension/Sampler

The templates would be great for switching the knobs between the virtual Instruments.

The drumpads could ALSO be excellent for triggering or switching fx but I was thinking
they would be great for changing the SYNC of the effects/instruments.

I would like to split them into 2 groups
1-6 for SYNC changes ... 2/1 - 1/1 - 1/2 - 1/4 - 1/8 - 1/16
7-8 for Switching something like FX or instruments or templates or even scene up/down...

buttons usually to on/off of fx, or wet/dry, or sends (to capture reberbs or delays or anything with a tail). Dont like using keys for fx triggers cause it takes my hands away from the faders and nobs area and they just arent as snappy as buttons are. I use automap 2.0 so I dont really use templates in the old school SL fashion, I use the automap 2.0 MIDI CC templates modified for my uses. This allows me to quickly switch between regular automapped devices such as single instruments or fx as well as each midi channel using the sl's browser controls.
