Using Live in Dj set

Post by Tyrant » Fri Nov 19, 2004 10:03 am

I am wondering how this would work, I am using 2 Pioneer cdj 1000's and i would like to know which way would be the best to use Live incorporation with the cd decks?

can i send the audio from my mixer and drop effects and control them live?

Also can i control the effects with a midi controller?

There must be at least 10 topics regarding your question. Use search, that's being helpful.
Oh, by the way even the manual is there for you, awaiting for you to open it.

Thanks for the help guys.

I've search the forum for this set up but have yet to find anything.

what i'm trying to do is play a dj set using my cdj 1000's record into live and drop fx onto the audio coming in live.

Can this be done?

it's simple as can be. just get live playing in sync with the track the same way you'd sync 2 CD players and run the audio signal into live for recording and manipulation.

or, just rip the tune off the CDs and get rid of the CD decks all together.

After seeing the video tutorial on how to do this, i'm gonna ge it a try. I bought a new 200GB hard drive recently just for audio, so its perfect chance to use it!

Only downside - i realised i need to get a multi-out soundcard cos Live won't recognise my second card!

Asio4all v2 now handle more than one soundcard. I tried and worked without problems.

How do you do that? I have an onboard sound card, and a Soundblaster, but whenever the soundblaster is connected, my onboard audio seems to disappear. I have checked the bios, and it is set to'enabled'?

Hugo,

Thanks a lot i just installed version 2 of ASIO4ALL and on the surface ot seems to work perfectly. SOmeone else suggested this so thanks whoever that was (can't remebmber  )

I may need to make some latency adjustments, but at least i don't have to shell out for a nw soundcard! :D

Now to the business of getting all my tracks down as WAV files and warping them! Let the DJing commence.

OK so i have got my seperate monitor and output working fine, but having tried just warping 2 tracks and then mix them, i failed miserably.

I am assuming that if i had warped the 2 tracks in the correct manner (chris cowie method) then then would have played perfectly for as long as i left them.

So i must be doing something wrong!

Do i need to make sure the tempo in Lve is pretty damned accurate before i begin to do my warping on the track?

I know this will need some more effort on my part, but i could do with some pointers! Perhaps i should watch the video again.
