what I do...
reboot (always a good idea when going for a solid setup)
in the Windows system settings, set the computer to use my laptop's onboard sound card, not my main USB card.
check my USB sound card's sample rate
launch Live
options-preferences-audio
set the sample rate in Live to the same as your sound card
open ASIO4ALL (click hardware setup or whatever it is)
your sound card should be active, enable it.
as for straight up controllers, not the audio stuff, ASIO4ALL should not affect that.
hth, I'm not real clear what an Xboard is.

no, Live will show the name of your device, which could be "USB Audio Device" or something generic but that's because they didn't put all the details into the USB driver for the device. my BCR2000 shows up like that and it doesn't do audio, just midi over USB.
what options do you have? those changed?
also, with Windows sometimes you HAVE TO ALWAYS use the SAME USB port that you installed the USB device on to begin with. this is a big pain in the ass for Windows. are you using a different USB port than usual?
be sure to check your cables too, those good ol' trusty cables that work so well eventually wear out.

I think i found it!!!
Browsing through many nooks and crannys in my computer, i bumped into the troubleshoot pfd for the firmware editor of the MPD24, and i found this chapter on a Logitech driver conflict:
Correcting Windows Logitech Driver Conflicts
If your MIDI interface uses the class compliant MIDI driver supplied with Windows XP SP2 (i.e. it should
appear as USB Audio Device in the MIDI IN Ports and MIDI Out Ports dialogs but does not show up). There is
a possibility that you also have Logitech webcam, laser mouse or wireless mouse drivers that are conflicting
with the Windows USB MIDI driver.
The problem Logitech driver is called LVUSBSTA.SYS. Here is a procedure to clear out this driver from your
Windows XP system, but bear in mind that it involves editing your registry which requires extreme care.
Psicraft Designs and/or Akai Professional will not be responsible if you mess up your windows installation
while following these instructions , so if in doubt have a qualified friend perform these steps!
1. Run Regedit from the Windows Start->Run… Menu.
2. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE /SYSTEM /CurrentControlset /Control /Class / {6BDD1FC6-810F-
11DO-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
3. Click on this key and delete the "LowerFilters" item.
4. Navigate to the folllowing key:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE /SYSTEM /CurrentControlset /Control /Class / {6BDD1FC5-810F-
11DO-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
5. Click on this key and delete the "UpperFilters" item.
6. Return to the root of HKEY LOCAL /MACHINE /SYSTEM /CurrentControlset /Control /Class /
7. Launch a search (i.e Ctrl-F with the option to search in "Data") and type "LVUSBSTA". Any time this
is found in the "Control / Class" area of the registry, only delete the "LowerFilters" item (which is
where LVUSBSTA will be found).
Now your class-compliant USB MIDI port driver should be operational.
Just 2 days ago I installed a Logitech webcam (!), so i'm gonna try this tomorrow morning. (too sleepy now).
I'll report then...

Thanks!!! This also worked for me. I had installed a Logitech webcam and my Novation Remote 25 LE wasn't coming up as a USB Audio Device in MIDI Input on a MIDI track.
Following these instructions worked but, I also had to close down Ableton (v6), uplug the MIDI keyboard, plug it back in again and then restart Ableton. Hey presto.
Wonderful, thanks guys!
