It could take 2 years before you ever hear Serato and Ableton in the same sentence again from either company.meltedstone wrote:all these ideas sound fascinating but do you guys think it wise to wait before buying either Serato or Ableton ?
, judging by what may be coming , I think I should , rather than buy an almost outdated versions of Rane SL1 hardware and SSL / Ableton Live
thoughts please
Look at Cycling and Ableton. What will they announce in January? For all we know, its just a reminder of the statement they made 2 years ago.
Also, I think Serato stated that its about getting the products to work better together.
Not about creating new hardware. My best guess: Native plugin for Serato in Live. Just passes the audio to Live.

That's a good point. Record session clip with vinyl control to arrangement, consolidate clip- it's set.Tone Deft wrote:that is a great idea.
the Serato collab should maybe probably allow vinyl control over Live, if you bounced a track that was vinyl controlled, this would be a similar affect, just no warp markers.

I think hoffman is correct, but the question is, what does that plugin do? If it just passes the audio to Live, big f*in whoop-dee-doo. I mean, that's nice- but not that nice. If its an effect that can intervene in the playback of the audio in the track (jogging it in one direction or another, for example), in Live- that's something to write home about.hoffman2k wrote:It could take 2 years before you ever hear Serato and Ableton in the same sentence again from either company.meltedstone wrote:all these ideas sound fascinating but do you guys think it wise to wait before buying either Serato or Ableton ?

I am personally waiting to invest in Serato- I already bought MAX based on their collab announcement, and while I am not at all disappointed in MAX, I am a little jaded about the whole situation. I also think that Serato just made a major division of its focus with the whole ITCH hardware/software, and I want whatever I buy to be the perfect fit- is that the original Serato/Rane SL1, the new ITCH combos, or something unreleased? I am waiting to find out this time, and since I'm pretty broke, if it takes 2 years that's OK I guess.
I don't think it will be anything as drastic as being able to jog clips. We can't even do it with MIDI or automation. I doubt timecode will work on clips out of the box.chrysalis33rpm wrote:I think hoffman is correct, but the question is, what does that plugin do? Not trying to be negative here, but as you just proved with your post.. These announcements boost product sales for both companies without them having to do anything.
Some people have gone to barely knowing what Max is to sharing their patches with the max community. All because of that Cycling announcement.
Who knows how many max wizards got pushed into Live?
January can't come soon enough. All this speculating.. Its the us election all over again. Vote OSC!

Oh, well, OK I haven't actually shared anything yet, but I do use it all the time. I'll share when I have something worth it.

I disagree , to a point .hoffman2k wrote: These announcements boost product sales for both companies without them having to do anything.
As soon as any announcement such as this is made I put my wallet back in my pocket , I think there will be many doing the same thing also , so that means lost sales
Who wants to go buy a product when it is possibly being updated soon ?? .
It may well not be updated soon BUT with that kind of uncertainty ,..........it makes me even less likely to buy .
Just don't understand why any company would do that , bad for business !.
I'm not saying everybody is sueded. But I can name at least 5 forum members around here that got Max because they're hoping its going to be some kind of connection between Max and Live.meltedstone wrote:I disagree , to a point .hoffman2k wrote: These announcements boost product sales for both companies without them having to do anything.

The fact that Ableton has stated the opposite doesn't mean much.
In Serato's case, it may be different. Since they didn't announce a new product loose from their main product. Ableton and Cycling did. They just neglected to mention any other details. We know Gerhard helped paint the new C74 HQ, but thats about it.
Is Serato loosing sales because of this? Probably... I guess my statement that it could take 2 years might have been wrong. They might as well just teased a little before NAMM or Messe.
But its all just guesses. What else is new?
My thought is that you should just buy what you need for right now, now.meltedstone wrote:all these ideas sound fascinating but do you guys think it wise to wait before buying either Serato or Ableton ?

Worry about later, later.
I haven't tried this yet, but there's been an interesting update for Ms Pinky
so, mode 1 can send cc#s to use the turntable like an encoder, mode 2 sends out a sync signal whose bpm changes with the vinyl (bpm control over Live.)Mode 1: MIDI CC (Control Change) Output -- in this mode, MIDI CC messages are sent out on the device you choose, on the channel and controller number that you specify. The frequency with which these CC messages are sent is also specified by you. You also specify the "ticks per rotation" to match the characteristics of the jogwheel you're seeking to emulate. The MIDI CC messages are constructed like this: when the turntable is stopped, the value output is 64. When the turntable spins forward, the value is greater than 64. When the turntable spins in reverse, the value is less than 64. The amount by which it is greater or less than 64 depends on how many "ticks per rotation" you set, and how often you set the CC messages to be sent, and of course it also depends on the speed of the record on your turntable. You will probably have to experiment a bit with all these values to get something that works the way you want it to.
Mode 2: MIDI Beat CLock Output -- in this mode, you set a "Target BPM". If you need it, there is a little "Tap Tempo" calculator just below that can help you calculate your target BPM. After you enter your Target BPM, you'll see that the turntable speed modulates this Target BPM up or down, depending on the pitch of playback. You can set various parameters of the MIDI CLock output -- for example, I found that with Ableton it works quite well to set "Divisions of a whole note" to 96. Ableton seems to have no trouble synching up to the beat.
Each of these two modes can be engaged or disengaged independently. To specify the output device for each mode, double-click on the little "midiout" box underneath the section that has the controls for each mode.
