I'm reading a lot of valid points on presets here. Like a lot of guys, I get inspired by presets. I only briefly tried the Abe instruments, 14 day trial, and I didn't get to use them as much as I'd like, I actually don't think I had any pre-set sounds to mess with, otherwise, I probably would of gotten into them a bit more.
I have heard sample sounds from the Abe website, and those kick ass...
Anyhow, as far as tutorials go, I always like to check another's approach on making sounds. I use Logic's instruments to make my noise, but for the most part, it's almost all the same thing... Things you say for Tension I could relate to Sculpture, Operator the EFM1. Electric to the EVP88... And Logic's stuff sounds pretty awesome too...
what are your experiences with tension, electric, analog?

Those Logic plugins are OK but Operator to me is much better sounding, ditto Electric. Sculpture is a bit closer to Tension. Ultrabeat is a plugin which is very cool in Logic, ditto Space Designer.
What is so good about the Logic plugins is that they come in the box with the DAW for $489. That is significantly less than the Live 7 Suite at present and the FX plugins are mostly better in Logic too (although Live's compressor is better IMHO).

I bought the suite and the EIC and I use mainly electric and the woodwinds of the suite. Because it sounds so fantastic.
I agree what others said about the presets, not so impressive when you go through them at first sight. Might be because NI or Zebra make a lot use of additional efx in their sound libraries.
But on other virtual instruments it's also lots easier to scroll through presets, with up-down arrows on the interface, or with drop-downs etc.
It's not like that in live it would be difficult, but the way it is designed the presets do not really invite you to go through them ...
