Changing pitch and speed together

Hello.
I want to create quite a simple effect in Live 4 but can't see a way to do it.

I have a 1 bar drum loop, repeated over 16 bars in my arrangement, and I want to create the effect of spinning a record backwards with varying speed, on this clip.

So the tempo of the song stays the same, but this clip plays as if I was spinning back a record on a turnable, starting from still to very fast, So it starts slow, and low pitched, and then gets faster and higher pitched - backwards - until its going at like 200bpm in reverse. (a dumb effect, I know).

I can set the warp mode on the clip to re-pitch, and I can reverse the clip to get it to play backwards, but I can't see a way to change the tempo of that clip over the course of the 16 bar section.

You can change the pitch of the clip (and thus the speeed, in re-pitch mode), but you can't do this smoothly over longer period.

Is there any way to do this?
Or is there a reason why you can't do it? (I would have thought this is alot easier than all the clever pitch shifting stuff that Live does...)

Hi -
I thought ther was a pitch-something in the mixer drop down on each track in arrangement, but as I looked closer it wasn't.
Maybe (I don't know) this is because an arrangement track may contain a variety of clips, and could they all be handled "in bulk" by track pitch shifting?

Well, I would try another way to do it. Load the sample in Simpler and modulate its pitch from the track. I guess that could work for at least one of the things you want to do.

cheers. Will try that tonight. It makes sense - i want to modulate the pitch and speed together in the old school - i.e. very simple - way, rather than the clever timestretching way. So I guess using a sampler (like simpler) should do it...

what about putting your reversed sample into a new live set, set to re-pitch, automate the song tempo and then render that as a new sample to use in your main set?

Still, it seems odd that you can't do this without rendering the whole effect as a static sound file.

I can change the pitch of a clip if I warp it in 'beats' mode, why is this function disabled in 're-pitch' mode?

It just annoys me cos it seems like it should be so simple, and Live manages to do much cleverer things with ease.

what i'd try, is to put your 16 bars reversed clips in the arranger, consolidate them so you'll have only one clip, and then play with the transpose enveloppe while being in re-pitch mode. and don't use the pencil tool to draw the enveloppe, so you'll have continuous change.

i think that should work.

Yes, thats what I thought too! But you can't transpose clips in pre-pitch mode. I can't understand why not (unless I am doing something wrong) Can anyone confirm this on their system?

The simpler method mentioned above does work tho

yeah, transpose don't work in re-pitch, but if you create warp markers in your file and move them (you should need only a few), you should be able to achieve the result your looking for.
