Yep it's legit. The Tracktion people posted about this on KvR - it's basically a marketing stunt to expand their userbase before Tracktion 2 comes out. Users of the free version obviously have to shell out the full price for v2, while people who paid for it get a reasonable upgrade path...

Thanks for that tip. I've been playing with Tracktion all day.This is a pretty darn cool program for free.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't get Tracktion. I hate it. It just seems too hard to get around, despite only having one window. There's just too much wasted space, I just can't get the arrange area big enough, because there's no way to hide the bit at the bottom with file menus and transport controls, and that wasted bit of space where all the track names are. It just isn't intuitive for me. Give me Live anyday.

I can see how it would not be for everyone and must admit I found the GUI a bit jarring when I first launched the program. It's kind of Fred Flinstoney compaired to Live's ultra-smooth design. I can definately see what you mean about wasted space but for me there's something really infectious about this little program...and the price is right.
