So, how stable is Kontakt 3 in Ableton?

Post by NativeBreaks » Sun Dec 14, 2008 11:03 am

Any Kontakt 3 users out there?

I'm in the market to buy a VST sampler. It must have the ability to load a wide array of sample formats, but most importantly, I need to have multi-layer velocity switching. I was told I can do this with Drum Racks, but that whole bit is still uncharted territory for me. I assume it doesn't quite have the capabilities of Kontakt 3. The drum kits I'm going to build are probably going to take about a month. I have over 50 sample CD's from the 90's, and they consist of thousands of one shots on each one. Not to mention the loops I have to slice up. Gonna be a long job, I just wanna hear some feedback about Kontakt 3's stability. I used Kontakt 2 for a while, and it was a little buggy... That's why i'm so concerned about Kontakt 3.

I know there are only a few other VST samplers out there that can compete with Kontakt, but i'm open to suggestions. I'd just really like to hear from Kontakt 3 owners and their experiences with it, and possibly how well it performs live. That'd B great!

Kontakt3 can be great for slicing loops etc. But for a complete drum kit, i'd use Battery3. And both run fine in Live7!

Really? I used both quite a bit, but ended up leaning towards using Kontakt instead of Battery because it loaded Battery's sample libraries. Also scripts was another one for me. Maybe Battery has features I'm not aware of, but how many velocity switches is it limited to per note? Plus I really appreciate Kontakt's capabilities which are superior to Battery's. Looping, time stretching, slicing, midi export, grouping, layering up to 127 samples per zone/note. Built in mixer with FX and sends, plus multi outputs. I route my kick drum out my 828 mono through a tube compressor. One Kontakt instance is a lot of room for building in. The library is good, so is Battery's, but I used it for the sampling capabilities and programming possibilities.
I haven't used Kontakt 3 yet. Just wanna hear how stable it is these days.

I use K3 but just upgraded from 1.5. So far, my experience is good. The sounds load really fast thanks to the DFD and the fast edit panel is a good addition.

Kontakt 3 works great for me. I don't use it as heavily as many of my synths, but it doesn't cause me problems.

Kontakt 3.5 is right around the corner to, which will be free with some useful features.
