I couldn't agree more. Why should we support thieves.

TBH i think ableton should do what cubase.net do and give exclusive access to the forum to paid up members only.

thanks, helps a lot to realise what kind of true characters are around.

you know what, exclusive my ass!

nah... we like the open forum. Someone found a crack, uses it for a while, needs help, realizes that the forum is a friendly place, realizes that Live is more than just a boring time-streching DJ replacement, and eventually buys the product. I mean, who has never used a crack of say Photoshop, or MSWord in his or her life? Who has never shared copyrighted music? If someone uses Live and comes across as arrogant prick and spams the forum with stupid requests or deliberately radiates a bad vibe, then I would rather not want to support that person. Even if he she bought the software...

my private 2 cents

Rob

spot on, it's unbelievable arrogant to ask that question... and all people who will receive any form of help, will give it back, in the one way or the other.

what goes around comes around!

there is no way out or around that.

apart from that i believe that this is a music forum in a wider sense and not a tight ass only ableton forum.

cheers
axel

Did you notice on the Prop forum it now displays a badge for each registered product. I think that is a good idea and I also care if somebody bought the software. If nothing else it stops wankers coming on and posting problems they are having with cracked software.

I like a bit of friendly slagging and messing and don't want a nanny forum.

I do hear what ya saying and agree to a certain extent. However a lot of people steal without the intention of ever buying the product.

rubbish, bad way of thinking, your mind determines everything,
you think bad, bad will happen... remember my words in 20... years!

or watch your kids...

same about the money, the people who use(ed) once an ableton crack all buy, because there are no cracked versions around that work well, i know dozens of people who used it for several month before they all bought it, because they realised how good and worth the money it is.

i seriously have problems with that money is everything attitude, damn you people just got a fist in your face, economically and you still don't wake up?

just wondering.

Hey, SubShit,

Just wanted to point out that your venomous posts on this thread have focused on nothing other than insulting me with name-calling multiple multiple times. I'm wondering if you thought for a second (likely not) that during that time, you've not only NOT helped the OP at all, but also given him a great first impression of the vile nature of the forum. Thanks for all of that. You great great guy.

I'd *hug* you, but I don't have time to take the requisite shower afterwards.

Also, feel free to slew whatever subshit you will from your moral high horse. I promise you, I won't be reading it.

Have a SubWonderful day.

spot on, it's unbelievable arrogant to ask that question... and all people who will receive any form of help, will give it back, in the one way or the other.
First: In general you're right and this is the approach one should follow.
But i also may disappoint your belief in people to some extend: being in the game for more than a decade i've met numerous folks where "recieve - give back" just doesn't work out at all.

"it's unbelievable arrogant to ask that question... "

Not in every case. I asked this multiple times here:

mostly when people first ask for support using [email protected] - we help them, just to demonstrate that we really care even if we know they're using a crack - and tell them now that they experienced how fast our support is it would be nice if they join the good side of the force and buy a license. They refuse to do so, sometimes even get upset and calling us names, we refuse to support them further with their crack and then they join the forum to get help here from others. This is where i think it is totally ok to ask that in order to show the community that this person is totally taking advantage on the paying customer base.

If i'm really just curious i drop them an email/pm.

Cheers,
Dom

Can you help? I really need to start with some basic stuff.
Thanks,

At work at the moment so can't offer too much though will say that from experience;

The best way to understand your Fast Tack Pro's controls quickly is to make sure you have it positioned at head height or at least at an angle so you can read the labels as they quite small, having it on a desk surface makes reading it proper hard!

Also-

make sure that you have the input ( 2 knobs on the left) to least at 70% to keep the signal hot (You have a built in pre amp so should be able to record at a decent level though to hot and you’ll get distortion).

There’s also a button that allows for a ‘standard’ or ‘bright’ signal (Ins / line) ‘Ins’ being something powered like a keyboard for instance and ‘line’ for things like microphones and guitars. Using the correct setting will help give you a fuller sound.

Familiarize yourself with the monitor (mix) knob as this can sometimes give you a false representation of the sound you are sending into live. (The monitor/mix lets you hear a flat, zero-latency version of your signal that does not go thru Live. If you have decent latency you may well never need to monitor).

Above all, learn Live, read the manual etc... You've at least got the lite version so not as much to learn!

The rest is basic sound engineering which is mostly text book stuff to do with EQ, compression etc...and can be found everywhere with many and various opinions that will take you a while to master.

And, when these fine Ableton forum users are not arguing they can be a wealth of information and you may even find that a quick search may answer questions for you without you having to ask!

Recording that hot with a soundcard's built-in pre-amp is probably THE worst advice you can give to someone new. That only makes you look like a newbie yourself, even if you're not. It's one of the biggest myths in history of digital recording!

Please educate yourself a bit googling for "recording levels" for instance. You may also read my posts in this thread for a brief explanation:
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 8&start=15

To the OP: I can't help you with your soundcard, but you should explain what you mean with "acceptable volume level". My guess is that your levels are either already too loud (yes, I just said too loud) or perfectly fine...

of course, point for me is that your action will come back to you... it's not one to one all the time.

also, helping someone who just had 2 post in total... (this question here was his second one) i think is OK, if he really uses a crack and keeps on asking a hundred times for support then something called common sense (at least at some age you should develope that sense) should kick in...

let's just leave it as is.

and by the way i am curious about the outcome of the e-mail you send to him...

quite funny to ask " did you steal the program?".

I think you have to answer this kind of questions when you visit the USA. A very special American logic, like "he might be a terrorist, but I don't suppose he's a liar, that would be unfair..."
