PROGRAM CHANGE FOR SIMPLER
PROGRAM CHANGE FOR SIMPLER
hi!
what about a "program change" implementation for "simpler" and "impulse"? It would be very useful to change the preset using midi keyboard / controller.

Already asked for this a couple of times now but nobody else seemed to think it remotely important. They must think it's alright to be using the same drum kit for a whole 2 hour set then.

unite for program change for christ sake!
hi Martyn, somehow we have to chatch the attention of the cryptic Abletons! Who are they, a misterious lodge? Hey Abletons, if you hear me, get over there and code a program change, please?
I gues if it's only the two of us we will not get so far. It would be obvious to implement it though. I think i'm using simpler in a quite similar way than you do, for pads and stuff. I haven't gotten into using impulse exactly for this program change problem: It's already enough coordination effort to change the simpler presets with the mouse, in the middle of a jam session. Amen.

The 'mysterious Abletons' are pretty good actually, most of what you see in Live 4 was once on this wishlist part of this forum. Nearly everything asked for by Live 3 users last year made it into Live 4. Some of the midi features were a bit rushed IMHO, but I'm sure they'll get lots better on the next release. I'm hoping that Simpler and Impulse are just forerunners of much better Ableton designed instruments, complete with patch changing.
yes, i´ve been thinking the same "one drumkit for the whole set???" thoughts. actually i see room to do better then straight program change messages. if you look at how impulse works with the sample names next to the piano bar of the midi files that adress it; i could imagine replacing the numbers in the program change menue for clips with preset names in the same way.
the moment a new song stars a lot of seetings might need to change, both within live and in the rest of the setup. anything that takes the load off us at such moments and leaves us to concentrate on playing must be good. it´d be silly to have to program slow buildups at the start of every song just so we have the time to switch everything. i have only two hands and would like to use them on playing, the laptop can sort out all the chores.
and yes, the abletons are doing a impressive job. live is already the best tool around imho but i´m only human and so i always want more......

using automation for the simpler parameters would occupy most of the midi control knobs i have, if i would use more than one simpler unit. So i have to use the mouse for the moment...
My wish would be: All the commands i need to jam have a fixed knob on my controllers, so i could even forget that I'm jamming unsing a computer.
The present situation comes very close to this, besides the program change. Anyway i'm getting used to change presets with one hand while playing with the other. I set the "S"-key of the computer keyboard to flip to the simpler channel, to be faster...
cheers, Willi

yes we are also with you on this request.
I'm really surprised this does not exist already
We recently dropped Digital Performer for Live and our sets are generally one hour long. when we import a midi set complete with program changes, those don't mean anything in Live, so we are forced to create a new midi track each time where we used to have program changes which creates a MESS of midi tracks (which also leads me to the need for trtack grouping/freezing functions)
otherwise it's a great software but I also feel that to use it to it's full potential you have to have the latest and greatest.
My G3 500 which ran DP3 with absolutely no problems at all simply does not have what it takes to run Live. We are forced to go out and buy a Pentium M laptop for ($1000+) for our upcoming shows.
We are running Live with two external synths (Juno60 and MC202) and syncing to a DR770 drum machine.
For those of you in the San Diego area we are playing with Alan Oldham aka DJT1000 this Saturday, I'd love to meet any of you who are in my area.

I second, third and forth that request!!! I just had a live show where this feature would've came in very handy - I find with the work around that it's easy to get mixed up with which drumset your using and could potentially cause some 'mistakes' during the performence! Don't get me wrong, Live 4 is absolutely amazing, but nothing is ever perfect (although v4 is damn close!). Chalk me up as someone else who would like this feature! Thanks!
i'll give this one a BUMP since it is an absolute necessity for me: i have 1 or 2 impulse + 2 or 3 simplers in my set, that need to be changed for each track (there are ten tracks in my set)... so i have to change the presets about 50 times in a set, where i wouldn't have to do it at all with other plugins/hardware that recognize control changes...
please dear abes, oh please... won't you hear our call?
