Assign a single REC controler for any selected clip (Live 6)
Hello !
I am trying to set a single keyboard or midi controler button, to trigger recording for any selected clip, in session mode (instead of one key = rec only in clip 3 of track 5 for example).
Is that possible ? If yes, how ?
Thanx a lot

For that you can use a MIDI translator like 'Bome's MIDI Translator'creepy_lord wrote:thanx bendybones !
i actually figured that out probably about at the same time you must have been typing your message :p
and what about assign the same function to a button on an external controler ?
Are you on Mac or PC?

I have been wondering about the same thing. I came across this app for mac that converts a midi message into a keystroke:

I haven't tried it yet, and I don't know whether there is a PC equivalent.
Hope that helps.

thanx djdalecooper
that's indeed a good trick![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
worked perfectly
only thing is that it really converts a signal to a keystroke, so if your windows are not in the right order, if you haven't just clicked on the clip or other random situations, you will just end up pressing enter nowhere, like on the desktop, in a synth window...
do you know if that (amazing) lack of feature is at least fixed in live 7 ?
or any other solutions ? (activate REC of a clip with say a foot controler)

While Mackie Control Emulation (what bendybones is referring to) does work, it can be a bit of a pain.
there's another way of doing this, and that's to assign to the TRACK LAUNCH BUTTONS. The manual will guide you there, but if you go up/down to select your scene (with CCs) then you can record on that scene for any of your tracks using the Track Launch buttons, quite easily.
This, of course, requires more controller buttons / computer keyboard keys to work, but then you get instant access without having to move across the scene.
