midi clip convert to audio clip question

Post by mholloway » Thu Dec 25, 2008 5:14 am

frequently i use the "freeze" function on a midi track and copy/past a given clip over to an audio track, thereby creating an audio clip -- awesome functionality in live 7 ; BUT what I don't understand is why, whenever I do this, is the resulting audio clip twice the length of the original? an 8 bar drum clip will be 16 bars in the audio clip version, for example. everything just gets doubled....the second half appears to be an exact duplicated of the original section. what's going on here? obviously i can just cut the new file down, but why should I need to in the first place? any ideas?

he was thinking you had a delay on the track and the audio clip was capturing that delay.

to re-iterate what he asked, are there any FX on the track?

Yeah I did -- turn off "loop" on the midi clip before freezing/copying. that'll do it! (i guess maybe with loop On it defaults to a double-copied clip, to allow for any FX overlap, etc, that might be recreated by a looping clip? which is, come to think of it, pretty helpful; if you need the "real" start where something like a delay sets in, splice just the first half; if you need the already present delay at the start of the clip, slice the second half....if you catch my drift. pretty useful).

in any case, just uncheck "loop" and your set.
