Are Live Files Compatible?

Hello all,

I have a desktop running windows and live and I am getting an ibook and wondered if I can transfer my files between systems? Does anybody do this or know if it is possible thanks.

Wont be a problem. The Abletons openly acknowledge the need for individuals to have two machines with Live registered as well (studio desktop, live laptop scenario), as long as they are not being used at the same time.

i think the question was can one open mac live files into windows live, and i think the answer is yes.. should i even reply if idon't know the answer?

Yes the files are interchangeable.......you just have to lose the .als extension that Live sets have in Windows when you transfer them to Mac....or add the .als to the filename if you are doing it the other way round.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry to drag this out but Vercengetorex I see you have the fw-410. That's what I want to get for hardware. I have an omni-studio on the desktop and have been thrilled by it's performance and so i want to stick with M-Audio. How has your experience with the 410 been?

Mammalux,
You actually do not need to wory about the .als extension, this is the recognized Ableton Live (set) file type on Mac OS X.

Thanks.....I haven't actually done the transfer that way round....but if you port from a mac to Windows you do have to add the .als right?

Well, if I'm not redundant, save your sets as "Self-contained" (with all the sound files) and share across platform. If you're working on the same project on 2 OS then just send the ser file w/ .als
