Can Live address more than 2Gb of Ram? I know its not a 64bit app, but even in 32bit OS it can atleast read a max of about 3.5GB (i think) if its LAA that is.
Can anyone confirm if it is or not.
If yes, then its certainly worth moving to Vista 64 just to benefit from this...
Live - LAA (Large Address Aware?)
Yes. Windows can use a maximum of 3 GB, provided that you have Live 6.0.5 (or higher) and the "/3GB" flag is set in the boot.ini file. More information are here:

In Windows Vista (32-bit) you can set the /3GB flag with the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) command line tool. Here's how it works:

Be careful. If you mess up your boot.ini or BCD, your computer may not boot anymore!
Also note that the /3GB switch only makes sense if you have MORE than 3 GB RAM installed.
In Mac OS X, 4 GB are your limit.

Re: Live - LAA (Large Address Aware?)
4 GB is the absolute maximum for 32-bit applications. A 64-bit OS won't help here. Also note that Live is currently not fully compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows.teejay wrote: If yes, then its certainly worth moving to Vista 64 just to benefit from this...

XP 32 will address up to about 3.75 GB of RAM depending on configuration, but any single 32 bit app will only be able to address a total of 2gb.
So my understanding is that Live itself will only use a max of 2gb RAM max on any 32 bit system.
Is this correct as far as Live goes Nis?

Not exactly. It's important to understand that the 2 GB limit is not in Live, it's in the OS. The maximum address space for 32-bit applications is 4 GB (in theory). What you can use in reality depends on the OS.So my understanding is that Live itself will only use a max of 2gb RAM max on any 32 bit system.

32-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista will only allocate a maximum of 2 GB to an application (in reality it's even less than that, but that's another story). The aforementioned /3GB switch will change this to 3 GB, so in theory you can use a maximum of 3 GB in Live if you have the /3GB switch enabled.
Note that the /3GB switch will only work with such applications which are "large address aware". Live supports that since version 6.0.5. Any other applications will still be limited to 2 GB by the OS.
Hope this helps. Once again, be careful with the /3GB switch. It does not work very well with all hardware configurations and/or applications.
Best,
Nico
