Well, crap. Disabling the internal audio didn't make the problem go away.

Speedswitch XP

Post by geistfrei » Wed Dec 01, 2004 6:43 pm

Hey glaive,

did you try running SpeedswitchXP on your 5150?
It helps a lot to make your system more stable
speedwise, since the standard windows energy
schemes seem to change the clockspeed to save
battery, although the cpuload is high. This little
tools helps to overcome this behaviour.

You can find the programm and some advices here:

happy tweaking :)

Yeah, I'm running SpeedStep ... still have the problem.

Also, the problem occurs with both the Indigo and internal audio, so I don't think the Indigo's to blame.

I'll put SpeedStep back on Max Performance, now that I've done a bunch of other tweaks, and see what happens.

I just defragged last night. We'll see today if it takes care of things.

NTFS tends to get fragmented quite easily. You should defrag every week or so (but not too often, or else your hard drive will be really slow when it has to write data). The best way to do this is to set up a scheduled task for "c:\windows\system32\defrag.exe c:" and just have it run weekly.
