DJ'ing with MIDI - Novation remote zero

Post by Jay Glow » Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:18 pm

I have a couple of q's for people who dj using the remote zero.

1) Can you eq two tracks at the same time using the automap, or do you have to manally map the 2nd channel?

2) Can you select effects using the device, or do you have to use the mouse? In fact, how 'mouseless' is the device in general?

Thanks!
J

1) I don't use automap when DJing, it make things a lot simpler to have one fader/button/knob for one setting only. Automap is very useful when using ableton for production but i would stay away from it DJing.

2) Not sure sorry

^^ Agreed. Automap isn't going to be useful for you when DJing. You'd have to click on a device manually in order for Automap to pick it up which pretty much defeats the purpose of using a controller.

Grab the template editor software from the Novation site and make yourself a DJ template for template 34 or 36, there's no need to try to overwrite the automap template (#40).

I'm glad i read this thread cos it's heading down the route of what i'm trying to discover also...? Apologies if this is comes across as a bit of a hi-jack!!

I'm interested in buying one of the novation Remote devices, the Zero or SL37 perhaps and intend to use it for triggering clips in live and controlling paramters and VST plugins in Live... I also want to control devices in Reason 4 via the rewire option. E.g. redrum/the Arpeggiator and thor, for example...

Is there any way of selecting lets say the arpeggitor without having to click on the screen with a mouse, then let automap take control...Get an arpeggio pattern looping in a clip, then link the midi controller to Thor for instance, get some pad sounds going and so on....All without having to click on the screen, this is basically intended to be used in a live stage scenario...

Or if this isn't possible with Novation products does anyone know of an alternative product???
