I've Been Sucked into the Void (a.k.a. New Mac User Thread)

Post by Baron von Case » Sat Jan 03, 2009 8:36 am

What can I say? Previous generation white Macbook, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 2G memory...

Is it the best thing out there? No.
Will it blow everything I've ever experienced in computer music out of the water? I have a feeling it will.

Not bragging; it's been a long, hard financial struggle. But I'm goddamn happy! :D

More on this later...

Just moved from Windows do Mac too. This OS is blowing my mind... it's so easy and fun to do everything... from watching fims to writing MIDI drivers :o

Macs are great, unfortunately the majority of people who use them are frigging cretins. Its nice to be writing music and browsing freesound at the same time without slowdown or the threat of virus' . I think i'll be getting a mac mini as my main studio computer next time i upgrade it in a few years.

If by "cretins" you mean "computer illiterate", well then that's kind of the point.
The idea of mac OS, and especially OS X, has always been to make the interface between the user and what the user wants to accomplish with the computer as transparent as possible.

as much as i think about what makes mac better than windows - nobody beats apple in designing nice looking buttons. the such you want to push. thats it - GUI. and it's apparently quite a great deal.

No i mean image conscious narcissistic uber consumers who suck as much corporate sausage as is humanly possible. Hope that clears things up. Thats only a generalisation though.

I am still rocking my hackintosh, it has been rock solid running live for about a year now. it is much better than the POS windows xp box i had for 2 years beforehand.

And yes apple fans are self indulgent weenies.

yo, next to the ease of use and performance, osx is a great GUI in my opinion, too.

i have a PC at work (i must use) and it's like staring at utterly ugly woman the whole day, so you loose all appetite for sex :?

No offence but mbp are over kill for audio applications unless you REALLY need the extra 2 inch screen estate. Saying that, the new MB models don't have FW :( but that could be 'fixed' next week ;)
none taken.
we got a refurbished 15" at 30% off (didnt want the bigger screen)
but it will be used for graphics work and sooner or later i'll prolly hijack it to do video editing so the better graphics card will be handy
plus having the firewire 800 port and express card slot is nice.

on the mac side of the fam we are going from a G4 tower to a mbp lol exciting
i dont use the G4 for music just internet and graphic design.

next step for me is to upgrade my pc to a quad core
and since i wont need to lug it arround no more i can transfer it from the 2u rack to my 4u rack case.
