I am the very first to admit that I am computer illiterate. I'm always the one to say "I'm a musician, not a computer scientist" when I get irritated with technology, and so far, that's been inevitable. I'm definitely above average in computer proficiency if you take the entire computer-owning world as a sample, but for a 22-year-old computer musician, I am an abomination.

I've been using Windows since 1994, and in all honesty, I am struggling to think of any feature that I will particularly miss. I don't know if I can say I ever really got the hang of it, so I am thinking any interface will be more intuitive to me.

Mind you, I was the one saying "Macs are for people who don't know how to use computers" for several years now. Then I realized, I'm one of those people. If you're good with Windows, more power to you; it's in the eye of the beholder. I'm not condescending to anyone. I'm just fucking excited to get a Mac.

Having a pretty even division of PCs and Macs at my university and the bordering art school, I think the answer has been made exceedingly clear to me.

I've been using a Dell laptop since 2005. I did some maintenance, what I thought was a lot, but it's pretty unusable now. I will need to wipe the hard drive to get it back into any sort of working condition. Even Word is running slowly. So if Macs do that work for you, that alone will be worth the purchase.

Thanks for the input! Maccy arrives Jan. 7 at the latest...

Macs are also for people who are pretty advanced with computers too. I switched because I am an advanced computer user, as well as wannabe musician, and I wanted an OS that had a decent UI and was UNIX-based. I've been a Linux user for many years (and day-to-day Windows user in work) and I needed something with a command line as well as UI. Linux was just never there in the ease of use department.

Not yet. Let's add in that Renoise, Energy XT, and Reaper are all available on Linux. In the plug in department more are coming, and the VI Discovery is as well. with Renoise and Energy XT you have a sampler, with Discovery a nice VA, and there's a free DX7 VI as well.
Linux is starting to look like a real choice for audio. 8)

Honestly if Live and Zebra 2 ported, I would buy the Suite and go Linux at this point. 8O

I've used both macs and windows for a long time. and I think this sums it up (it's from another thread but it's so darned relevant)

I noticed that the time wasn't correct so I went to change it. check this out for what it took to change the time.

1: click on the time
2: click on 'change date and time settings'
3: click on 'change date and time' again...
4: click continue...
5: change the time
6: click ok
7: click ok again...

what the f**k is all that about? god damnit that is stupid.

now what kind of moron thought that the old fashioned double click on the time and change it method wasn't good enough and thought "hm... you know what people would like? 5 more steps to get the job done"
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

I use both Windows and OSX, because I can, because I have a mac.

http://wehatemacs.com

8O

does the same exists, like "wehatePCs" ??

I often see posts of people saying mac users are "arrogant pricks", "cretins", "snobs" that like to pay 2x the price for nothing more, people that do not know how to use a computer, etc, etc, etc,.

But I barely remember reading the same on the other side...

why so much violence against me, so-called snobby dumb macuser?

if I'm just an arrogant prick, why do you fight to prove it?

why do you happy (?) pc users do you need to fight against us happy mac users?

I'm a mac fan now, since 2 years, after 10 years on pc's, and I'm happy, so what's the problem with you? 8O

are you, for any reason, kind of frustrated ?

but without this "debate" and all the trolls comin" in, life would be so sad... !!!!!

best wishes to all of you for this new year, ALL COMPUTER HAPPY USERS !!!
