Low Signal level through Pioneer DJM600

Post by KC » Thu Dec 02, 2004 1:45 pm

Last week did my 1st set with live. I plugged the output from my firewire 410 into the line in on the Pioneer DJM 600. Everything sounded cool in the sound check but later when I launched my 1st clip i noticed the signal level was painfully quieter than the DJ's last record. Unfortionately the PA system amp was on full so I could n't compensate. The level on the 410 was up full & the master level in abelton was up as far as it would go without being in the red. Things seem fine in the studio - all my samples are super loud & my leads are high end. Is there any way I can get things louder as I have to play the same place 2 morrow.

On how much -? dB was your master in Live to avoid clipping.
If you go too low for avoiding clipping your voltage becomes too low, I´ve had the same problem.
Put a limiter on the master, so you can go up with the fader to 0 dB.
Download the waves evaluation bundle wich includes the L2 ultramaximizer, I got the best results using it.

The 410 has a 'consumer' -10dB output doesn't it?
What sort of levels were you able to get on the Djm (on the channel meters?).
Could you not even get it to 0dB on the mixer meters?

theres a master volume on the back of the djm but its fiddly to adjust on the sly and is a small screw like knob thats flush with the case.

one of my friends also complained about this recently, however he didnt have the volume on his laptop turned up, only on live and the 410

If the decks were coming through loud and clear it probably isn't that though is it?

You were plugged in to line on the mixer..mmmmmm...take it you tried jacking the channel gain on the pioneer? Playing with the master level out on th eback of the Pioneer might make you less than popular with the club when the other djs play and it's all WAY louder than before. I'll try my powerbook out into my 600 here later to test

the 410 is quiet

back to back,in the studio, with my digi 001 the 410 is 1/2 the output volume...so the gain goes to max for me on the dj mixer with my 410

(im sure (hopefuly lol)the dj wasn't playing with the gain set to max)

i have a similar problem when recording vinyl to my mac. through a pioneer 600
.... my input level is almost full - when i bring the recorded thing into ableton the volume indicators are only half way up even though the little arrow is on full.
