Noob: Can only record into one speaker/earphone/channel?

Post by DrewWoodside » Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:08 pm

So I just purchased Ableton, and I'm attempting to record but for some reason it only seems to be recording into one ear/speaker? As per the instructions on on my Interface(Mobilepre USB-powered preamp and audio interface.) I need to plug my microphone into channel 1. I do this and my computer picks up sound but only for one ear. My computer is a PC purchased in the last year running Vista. Is there some sort of splitter or dual microphone connecter hardware that I need? Or would this simply be some sort of tweaking of system options? If anyone can offer any info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot. Please help!

Hi Drew,

you simply need to specify the input port in the audio track´s I-O section. Set "Audio from" to "Ext In" - and "1" (instead of "1/2" which picks up a stereo signal).

Hi,

Try changing the settings in the Audio Input section in Live's Preferences. You can select mono or stereo there. Then take a look at the audio input for your audio track in the main session view, you should be able to configure it so that the channel 1 audio is duplicated on channel 2.

Ok, so for channels in I need to try setting it to only pick up channel 1 instead of channels 1/2. Also, do I want Mono or stereo? I feel like I'm only 2 or 3 clicks away from making this thing work. Also, I can definitely fix this without buying any new hardware right? Having my microphone plug into a single Channel is standard procedure?
