Noob question.. Help Appreciated.

Post by DrewWoodside » Thu Jan 08, 2009 6:53 pm

I recorded a song, that has vocals and guitar. I originally recorded an extra verse which i've since decided I no longer want in the song. What would be the best way to remove that in a natural way? Would recording dead air over the portion I want to remove then limiting the area for rendering be the best way? Or is there a fade effect as well? If so where is fade? I know this is a simple question but I want to be able to jump right into ableton when i get home from work and finish the song so I can sleep.

Thanks a lot, everyone has been very helpful!

dead air? No.

The best way would be to simply highlight the region and hit delete time, if you are in Arrange mode. Other programs have the nice option to then crossfade the remaining regions, but Live doesn't, so you better hope for a seamless cut... otherwise its a little more work, creating new tracks and making crossfades manually.

if needed, if you zoom in on the verse's live clip, you can adjust volume, start, finish, etc to nTH degrees, especially if you turn the grid (1 bar, 1/16th, 1/32, etc) off.... you should very easily, with all of these controls be able to smoothly cut out a verse... Live's other tools (again, only if needed) such as fully automatable filters, panning, utility, EQ etc... can help in smoothing out "impossible" transitions... but like the poster said, if i read you correct, zoom in to where you want to delete the verse, choose the area, then "delete time"
