Just my two cents, mp3 support for Ableton should not be an issue, keep it clean and just use AIFF or WAV. Let Acid and those other software programs deal with MP3s I don't hate the format but I just like Ableton so much I don't want to hear these cats chopping up MP3s and making more shit for music! The DJ's can rip those CD's to MP3 pretty quick these days with tons of freeware rippers, the best (In my humble opinion) is Lame and Razor or Lame and EAC.

personally I dont see why they cant just incorporate SX style import export options where it converts to wav and puts it in the project folder - if there is any perceivable harshness etc then I'm sure it could be offset with some kind of EQ filter - maybe even automatically during import - they dont need to allow realtime MP3 - just cut out the need for 3rd party converters

The very nature of online music downloads is that they have to use some kind of compression, most liklely MP3 so it would be a shame for a program which is intended to be used by Djs as much as musicians to not support that - there must be a way around the sound issues

I understand the need for DJ's these days to use MP3's but that's the problem with other software programs such as SX they are too freakin bloated. Everything should not be incorporated into one program if it isn't extremely necessary. Ableton should remain as it is and build on the audio and midi features that it's famous for and not follow all the other programs that bundle every damn thing into their audio engine and then people wonder why there are so many bugs or why the program is so slow.

There are just too many free tools available to deal with MP3s, stop being so lazy everybody wants everything freakin thing in one fail swoop but sometimes it's best to have dedicated tools instead of all in one. You get better quality that way in my opinion.

I'd say just convert all your MP3s to .wavs or .aiffs. Winamp can do it REAL fucking easy. You just set the default output to disk writer, and select a directory. Put the songs in your playlist, hit play. Then walk away and grab a beer. When you return your songs will all be converted.
