i got a second gen. MBP with a glossy screen and don't have any trouble, neither on stages nor in sunny daylight, if a light source is really heavy and blasts directly with a screwed angle into your screen, then you don't see a thing anyways, no matter if matte or glossy.

it's more a matter of liking glossy or not. in terms of glare i don't see any difference that is so big that it really matters.

thx so far
especially SubFunk,

so, from checking out the laptops in store
i could not get a clue if they work in a club Live-Gig situation or not.

And on the other hand, while reading forum comments, one can get the impression that glare laptops do not work at all.

so feel free to share your experiences
about matte or glare screens in a live situation

For me, the trouble with a glossy screen isn't just in a live situation, it's in every situation. You stare at the screen constantly. You either see what is happening on the screen only (matte), or with a glossy you see things on the screen, along with ghostly reflections of the environment around you. For me that is unacceptable.

I would wait. Obviously the 15" matte isn't too far off.

Since Apple did not announce matte 15" MBPs with the 17", I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for that option. I don't expect it to be an option for current generation 15" units. You may have to go with the glossy or use a third-party antiglare cover as another poster mentioned. That said, I don't see the glossy screen as a big deal.
