+1. For me, Live 8 shall bring improvements for sampler and better midi features. And all the user stuff that other people want...Voted hopeless fanboy. I remember somebody posting the sales figures and yearly income for Ableton, and it wasn't that impressive for a a 60 person company. It's in my best interest to feed them every year or so.
will u buy Live 8?
I use drum racks all the time now and it is a major part of my workflow. I hope they do swing/groove quantize in 8.Tone Deft wrote:agreed.
yeah, ultimately L7 wasn't so hot. sidechaining can be found elsewhere, 64 bit summing is bullshit, drum racks are so-so (YMMV), Spectrum can be found elsewhere etc.
If they introduce any new instruments I hope they will make a price point somewhere between buying them one by one and buying the whole suite. something like Ableton Suite Lite choose any 4 instruments from the collection.

I actually think I'm going to sell Live, my MPC500, and my MPD. Gonna get an MPC 1000 or 2500 and Logic 8 I think...
I just don't use Live to it's fullest potential at all, and can't get a 'composition workflow' going with it at all, whereas with Logic it was pretty much instant.
ARGH!

I just hope that we can make the decision whether or not to buy L8 based on whether we like the new features (vs cost) and not just to get bug fixes or to get around limited functionality.
It was nice when they brought out that recent update for L6. I hope they continue fixing L7 regardless of L8's launch...

they need to come up with something killer, new and fresh... something no other music apps has... that is the point of live for me, like clips, which are uniqe... just implementing all the 'standard' rubish other DAWs already have:
pointless for me.
from live i expect it to be a creative thinking house, not just another what does the average boring customer wants whore.
surprise us! please.

Well they'll do lots of little tweaks here and improvements there which is always nice. The first version that comes out is always full of bugs, not so nice.
So I'll wait unless they drop a bomb like the slicer and then I'll just get it the day it's released. It's been like that with 5, 6 and 7 so I'll be there from the get go I expect...

I buy if they first fix Drumrack. Route out to actual audio channels. Make many drumrack channels route to one audio channel outside drumrack and so on. I see them there in computer like in this screen grab, but they do nothing. Nothing. Why?

Since these already exist but are worthless, i would hope this get fixed before 8 actually.
Audio to? No where.

Chang, I think I'm right in saying that if you want to process an individual drum rack channel like a regular audio channel, you can drag it outside of the rack and it converts to an audio channel?
Not at home so I can't test this. Obviously, it would be more flexible if you could route from inside the rack as well.

I don’t think they are broken. I’m not sure why you’d need to route to an audio track outside the rack, unless you are doing some really convoluted effect routing. For example, if you want to create a submix for all your snares using drum racks, simply group them together and add effects on the group track. Alternatively, the drum rack sends can be routed to the main sends. The benefit of the system, is it allows all the routing to be stored in the drum rack.Chang wrote:I buy if they first fix Drumrack. I can’t think of much you can’t do with the current system, once you get your head round it. Or are you trying to create a submix for drum parts with other tracks outside the rack? I can see this would be more tricky. I guess you'd have to use a return track for that.

Yes, I see that but im wondering why not just make it so those 'audio to' boxes that are already there in place can be sent out to main mixer? Everytime you group it opens a new instance of drumrack with just those grouped sounds on it which is ok, unless you decide you want to add more drum sounds to main drum rack. Now you have to go back to original drum rack and make sure your not putting sounds on same pad already used in grouped snares for instance if using same midi channel or your going to have a mess of two different sounds being fired by same midi note. I'm saying i wish the drum rack acted like Battery so you have 1 Battery up on a midi channel and you decide where to send what sound to where without having to open up 10 battery groups to sub snares kicks hats etc while making sure not to put any new sounds on same pads of original battery. The fastest way in world to work for me is to have one midi channel of battery with all drum seq information and then open up audio channels as necessary to mix.
I'll try send idea, but i think the last time i tried that it not work right. It needs to work like in mixer as in 'to sends only'. In drumrack the send only acts like fx return so you send to a drumrack send 100% but the sound is still on dang drumrack channel making mess, now two of them. Unlike in lives normal mixer where you can select audio to sends only which turns meters blue and is truly sent to send and not still coming out of original channel itself.

One reason I don't use drum racks at all is that the sub channels don't show up in the Mackie Control, or the Remote SL. So not only are you unable to route a single channel of a drum rack out of the rack, but you can't use any smart control surfaces with them either.
Sad part is the folder part of drum racks is really useful to me. There's little visual feedback in Session view during mixdown compared to other DAWs and it's a PITA to scroll through tracks in the super top modern single window interface.
Basically, for post production Live blows compared to the other DAWs.
