Are either of these sets going to be posted on your website? I really liked that croatia PA and have been hankering for more good techno to get me through my workdays.. =)

the zip is about 92.59MB, and the set itself is 69 Minutes.

the flyer:

as you could expect, the Crystal Method was absolutely awesome!!!

just kidding, they sucked balls and got the kind of reaction from the crowd that pretty much proved they sucked balls. They DJ'd some crap ass remixes they've done of Nelly and Beyonce. So the final word really is,.... well, they sucked balls. :D

Tight set Adam, very nice live manipulation / use of FX.

Nothing quite like rockin' out in another country!

Hey Adam - keen to check it out - but Any reason you zipped it? If it was MP3 I could stream it - and you'd be lucky to get an extra 1% out of zipping mp3 anyway

cheers

i .zipped it because of bandwidth limitations.
my server only allows 100GB bandwidth a month, and beleive it or not i regularly exceed that limitation. by .ziping it - it cannot be streamed, and this prevents people from streaming the set multiple times when they could just download it and listen to it multiple times.

the month before i .zipped all the sets i was hosting and promoting through http://djadamjay.com , the server did 250GB, and i had to pay a pretty penny for the bandwidth overage. its really easy to go over when the average set is 100MB and few people practice the "save as" command.

glad you all dug it!!
i'll upload some pictures from the festivals next week.

Ahhh, so THAT'S why people zip mp3's. This is the first logical excuse I've heard thus far. =)

And I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but have you considered encoding your mp3's at lower freq/bitrates? I've been using lame at 64Kbps, 31000khz (I think), and mono, and you can get a 60min set down to about ~20Mb or less without a remarkable drop in audio quality.

I realize that it doesn't sound quite the same, but if thousands of people are downloading it for free and making you break the bank on bandwidth, then they shouldn't be looking a gift horse in the mouth, if you know what I mean. ;)

btw, was the sample of the yelling guy in this set taken from a jello biafra speech?

i like making the mp3 available for people to burn on a CD, and have it sound damn good. If i have to chose from a 64kbps streaming mp3 or a 192kbps .zip'd mp3, well in the age of broadband the higher bitrate is fine so long as it is download only.

now that all the sets are .zipped i usually get between 90GB and 120GB a month so long as i'm not offering more than 4 or 5 sets at a time.

also, the entire mix is done in Live. using an SU700 sending multiple outs to a Mackie, busing the Mackie into Live - mixing (and recording the whole set) entirely in live, and then out of the computer as a mains signal.
This allows me to render the set at 24bit/96khz. Dither with Waves IDR, resample down to 44.1khz, and encode a 192kbps MP3 that sounds better than a 320kbps MP3.

i've never really been a fan of mono either. i'll record one in every 9 or 10 live sets mostly for promotion, and if i am promoting my music then i want it represented as good as possible without exceeding my bandwidth limitation too much. I only really broke the bank that one month before i .zipped all the sets.

where i used to make my living selling records, now that the vinyl industry has really tanked in the last 2 years (i think thanks to a combination of shite economies and mp3s making the music accessible to those who don't have the $$ to buy vinyl anymore), i make my living playing live and occasionally djing. Making high bitrate quality mp3's available to people for free is what helps to expose my music to the random techno head in South Australia or Slovenia or Holland, etc.
Just gotta evolve with the times i guess, and i've found this method to be useful.
