I've been waiting for a clip launching matrix with feedback for five years now:

Looking at the APC40 for the first time was similar to the first time I saw an electric guitar. Our instrument arrived today, and it's more beautiful and simple and elegant than I had imagined.

OUR CLIP MATRIX IS HERE!!!!

"Works with most MIDI recording, sequencing, and performance software" -Product Overview PDF

So, despite being an "Ableton Performance Controller," it can be used with anything, apparently.

So the real cost of this is the idea, the dev and the material, which is about (to me) $ 300 street level, or little more.

In my mind, a $450 bundle max for live + akai controller would be killer. Max for Live I suppose is for Live only and it's got its own price reference to define, it has more or less nothing to do with Max/msp as it exsts now.
So I'm thinking about 400 alone, about 500 software bundled. Hopefully.
keep dreaming there man! if you're even remotely near, i'll eat my own ass.
tarekith said $799 for the controller, i reckon that's nearer the mark. seriously, these new bits and bobs are going have an RRP of at least $WTF.99 each

I take it there are more than 1 banks of 8 tracks for faders? Yes? No? And would you switch the 5*8 matrix to a new new set of 5 by pressing a button, or... ?And that the grid has both "temporary" and "toggle" with LED showing you status for anything you assign one of those buttons to (specifically on/offs, mutes, etc.), not just "3 colors for clip status"? Anyone have any ideas?

The directional pad is labelled "Bank Select". So I'm assuming independent scene and track banks.
They've said that it will be totally customizable with Max for Live, so I'm assuming the grid can do about anything you want.

$800!?!? that's retarded. it's just a USB knob box FFS, little to no brains in that box, just a USB chip and a simple microcontroller. no more than $400, more like $250. you guys are too easily impressed.

just waking up, where the fuck are the informational threads? lots of really bad joke threads.

I think they said you could navigate the grid left, right and up and down around the session view. Assume this would be the same with the faders, as they line up with the buttons.

3 colours for clip status was present, playing and recording. No light if there's no clip. Whether it's muted would be shown by the light on the mute button. It would be nice if clips about to play would flash, but who knows.

Dude the akai mpd32 is 299-399. 299 right now at for example sweetwater. This new one will likely be 499 on-line.

I don't see much in terms of display. Not even an LCD? It seems like it would be hard to know what bank everything is currently on.

Try this for the controller:

The max-live thing was mentioned by Akai in their presentation about this. It's been commented on by Robert, but only a few hints, nothing official.

I dunno Tone, I was thinking $799 sounded about right as well...Look at what people pay for a monome. The sexy factor alone warrants the price.

I have to admit I'm still giddy...call me easily impressed, but it's a helluva good day to be an Ableton fanboy!
