agree with that, there are plenty of people who will still want the monome. They only make a limited quantity anyways. There are however, lots of people who use it for nothing more than launching clips. I'm one of those people. Mine will be going up for sale this year!Robert Henke wrote:Kent_in_CO wrote:That sinking sound you hear is the monome's market value.
The only potential flaw I can see here is the faders, which apparently aren't motorized. When changing between groups of tracks - whether in the studio or during a live set - they'll remain static and need to be readjusted. That would make the transition less seamless when you go from say, 1-8 to 9-16.
Not complaining though; adding a motorized feature would've jacked up the cost and added a source of potential hardware failure.
I disagree about the Monome. It is not a "controller" it is more a piece of art that can be used with MAX. I would even say that APC40 + MAX + Monome is a killer combo !

New akai ableton controller
This video confirms that it will be $399 in the US.

He actually says it will be 399, no mention of the currency. He probably meant USD but then he sounded British rather than American. But he was an Akai employee so I think its safe to assume its 399 of some currency.anamexis wrote:This video confirms that it will be $399 in the US.

WOW! How often do you feel something could be underpriced?? It's like feeling the prestige of driving a BMW at Hyundai pricing!anamexis wrote:This video confirms that it will be $399 in the US.

frankly, they had to send all ableton users some sort of cryogenic camera to put us all to lethargic sleep until then)
$399 MSRP right? so that's more like $350 when the gear shops sell them.jonny72 wrote:He actually says it will be 399, no mention of the currency. 399 MSRP, yes. But again he doesn't say the currency. Probably USD though.Tone Deft wrote:$399 MSRP right? so that's more like $350 when the gear shops sell them.jonny72 wrote:He actually says it will be 399, no mention of the currency. I'm sure it is USD but, I've done trade shows (not music) before and if I (a UK retailer) was at a show in another country talking to a UK sales rep then he'd have said the price in GBP.anamexis wrote:It's at the Akai booth at NAMM, which takes place in Anaheim, CA, USA.jonny72 wrote:He actually says it will be 399, no mention of the currency. Any controller will be microcontrollers, interfaces, and knobs buttons. How does that take away from the excitement that we're getting a controller for under $1000 with a multi colored clip button matrix, made out of metal, with a Max customization capability?
I'm grouchy in the morning too but come on man. This is awesome.I thought I'd wake up, read the Ableton front page, start the beta download and go to work, but no, it's tardfest reading through pointless threads.
I'm completely impressed, I want one, but honestly, $800?!?? hells no. time will tell, hopefully by the end of the show today (8 hours from now.)
anticipation!!!!!
SalesDork says $400, surely that's the MSRP.
It will end up costing about $12,000 in Oz dollars by the time it gets here.
if it follows the usual rip of Oz pricing, they will prob be about $850-900 here. I can buy a decent guitar or amp for that, an actual instrument. this thing seems way overpriced.
ill probably still get one though. Curse you Abes, you know im powerless in your velvet fist!

With the current exchange rates and taking VAT in to account, $399 should equal £315. So that will mean its 25% more expensive in the UK and would probably work out cheaper to import it from the USA.CR78 wrote:Nick B from Sonic State chimed in on the 'NAMM-CAM Akai APC40 Quickie' comment thread and posted: "399 uk and USD..."
