High quality drums/perc sample CDs needed

Post by rikhyray » Thu Dec 09, 2004 2:54 am

Is the Reason Drum Refill the only such product ? I look for higher resolutions, quality, multisamples. Reasons refill is only drums, no even standard percussion, are there any serious alternatives ? Preferably in Akai format so I could easily load into NNXT or Impulse, dont need / want loops, just good sounds , so I asking the community real world users.

Big Fish (bigfishaudio.com) has alot of really good CDs

but can you be specific to what kind of drum hits you are looking for?
acoustic rock kits? hip hop single shots? synthetics?

Mainly acoustic, congas, djembe, quiros, bata etc etc. electronic I should be better able to create myself at least try.... tweak, process, but the basic - real tone is essential to start with.
My way or working , needs rich, complete sounds, I am not into lo fi. neither into lots of tracks, elements, so since the elements are so few, they have to have the overtone, harmonic richness, I use my own playing or samples but it is limited to the instruments I can play relatively well, I cannot hit conga and sound like someone who does it his whole life, it is about the tone. Most of these sample CDs are not so well done by not so great musicians, but there are some gems too and I hope some of you may know them.

Downlaods are in Reason REfill format already.
This guys stuff is buy in large uniformally good to excellent and most of it's free .
Though he also does commercialm refills also ........
Alot of this stuff will be right up your alley mate .

Link To Doru Malaia World - http://www.dorumalaia.com/freerefillswavesamples.htm

Also check out some of the demo's of his Commercial percussion packs also.

Might I also suggest you invest in recycle .
Record your own percussion live .
Rex it up and import it into DR.REX for use in your compositions also.

The Reason drum refill is the one as far as the drums are concerned, no complains, got it today, cannot use 24 bit, still waiting for new Ram, 512 is not enough to do anything with it . It sounds fantastic and cheap cpmpared to other products like Stylus.
Someone wrote me about "Percussionism" it is very new so not yet available in the stores but looks like interesting product. Will also try to check with Cholakis, he did a percussion CD with Armando Berg, if there are copies left, knowing his quality work, it might be the solution if available.

Dear Rikhyray

I bought the Percussionism sample CD at the weekend, if your looking for percussion hits and loops I recommend you check it out, if you get the chance.

Nice selection of samples with little apparent processing or effects added to the hits, although the volume of a few of the hits is bit on the low side - that’s the only weak point with this sample CD.

Of the five loopmasters origin series sample CDs I have this is the best one so far.

What are the single hits there, specially latin stuff , asian I can do myself ? is it all 16/ 44.1 or also 24 ?
It is not available here yet , but forwarded the info to the local distributor so they will inform me when it is available.
Since it is so new I expect that the quality should be better then some of those that are just repacked, recycled products from 10 or more years ago.

Thanks for the information- 150 Congas ! definitely better then usual 3 in GM standard. I hope it is all well organised and cut. Today I finished 3 days job of editing Vindaloops (Bhangra mainly sample CD) of I think the same company - time+space. Seems the only way to get 24 bit samples is, taking my laptop to Havana and do it there, a world class percussionist wont charge more then the cost of sample CD ( which equals anyway to 4 months salary)

Rikhyray,

I think zero-g have beaten you to it!

Beats Working in Cuba

Check this out for 24bit Cuban percussion, a bit on the expensive side and not a sample CD unfortunately. I wish they would give you the option of having a multi format (wav, rex, reason) DVD with plenty of 24bit content.

Editing audio sample CDs just not fun, even with help from AudioFinder.
