Is it possible to put two different MIDI parts on two distinct MIDI channels, set up a multi-patch on the Virus, and then route the two audio signals back to two separate audio channels in the DAW? At the moment I can do that with my Classic - just route patch number 2 to outputs 3 and 4, and feed those back in to another channel pair on the sound card, and would like to think I can continue doing soaqua_tek wrote:There is essentially ONE engine feeding the plugin and that is the ONE single hardware virus unit, so I don't think it's possible to have more than one instance of the plugin itself. But... you do know you CAN still have 16 different parts... or synths... playing from that same plugin, right?Daim wrote:wow.. the plugin still can only be used on one single track.. sucks
All about MIDI/Audio routing. Not complicated at all. It's like having 16 synth plugins neatly packed into one "tabbed" window.
new VIRUS TI2!
Live 7, Logic Studio 8, Mac Pro 8-core/2.26/6GB, OS X 10.5.6, Saffire Pro 40, Alesis M1 Active 520s, Remote SL 37, Virus TI Snow, Nord Rack 2, Zebra 2, Sylenth1
Argh, and you have to render all the virus sounds down into a audiochannel (using the resample method) before you can render the whole track...this is definetely annyoing and takes time.
Here is a vid how to use the virus within Ableton Live:

Damn, i really like the gui of the virus plugin, very clean and logical, just like Live

Yes you can do this via hardware midi and the analog outs on the virus as with Model C and earlier, however with the TI and TI2 you have a DAW plugin and a new sequencer mode to simplify this such that it is appears as a plugin instrument/fx plugin within your DAW.mkelly wrote:Is it possible to put two different MIDI parts on two distinct MIDI channels, set up a multi-patch on the Virus, and then route the two audio signals back to two separate audio channels in the DAW? In Live, the plugin accept midi on one of 16 channels for the instrument and audio inputs that you can use as either a stereo pair, or two separate mono inputs (to different patches for eg) if you want to use the TI as an audio effect device, or a combination of the two, for eg as a vocoder instrument, or replace the oscilators with audio input etc and just use the envelopes, filters, arp etc, or use the atomizer or envelope follower, vocoder etc.
Nothing to see here - move along!
I just wish DAWs would do more for multi-timeral/multi-output plugins, especially around automation. Its a real pain that you cant put automation for the target instrument on the midi track that contains the notes for that instrument, or stick the automation on an audio track that is routed to the plugin track.mr.adl wrote:Argh, and you have to render all the virus sounds down into a audiochannel (using the resample method) before you can render the whole track...this is definetely annyoing and takes time.

for eg, with say 6 midi tracks driving the TI plugin, some automation will control part 1, some for part 2, part3... 6 etc, even though they are all different automation parameters on the target instrument (as automations dont have a concept of channel) - you really want to keep them with their midi clips so you can edit and move them with the midi clips.
Just a simple way to make an audio or midi track have access to the named parametsr of another track (for eg the track thats its midi and/or audio goes to) and be able to forward the parameters to the correct track would be so useful!

I found also minimonsta very fun and easy to use, while sounding sooo great.mr.adl wrote:Yeah, should definitely check it out first in a store. Seems like endless possibilities with all the functions. On the other hand...i bought Massive second hand and haven´t digged into it deep as it is very complex (at least to me). I really like Sylenth1 and Minimonsta for their simplicity.
If you find Massive too complex I woul advise you NOT to get a virus Ti, perhap's more a clasic virus C if you really like the virus sound. As I told you, I was really bored by virus Ti when I tried Massive and found it soooo cool and easy in comparison, while sounding more fat and fun to me...
Virus Ti relly needs, IMHO, getting deep into synthesis and complexity knowledge, oherwise you could be stuck with using un-comprehensible presets... (virus Ti has a lot of screen-window parameters to tweak, while navigating into this by "right-left" buttons into severl screen layers... I felt often lost into all thoses screen pages... for me plugins and less complex hardware synths are much more easy to use than this famous complex engine that is the Ti)
but that's just my humble amateur opinion
Hope Ti fans won't find my advise misplaced,

"virus TI" is the name of the whole total integration line (desktop, keyboard, pØlar, snow), and the pØlar is just one of the models.funky shit wrote:I just realised something.. i think.
The virus TI and virus TI Polar, are the same synthesizer.
Only the polar is smaller?
Hm, how can i automate things in the TI? I mean if i have 3 different sounds all from the TI (3 different Miditracks sending data to the TI) and want to automate the cutoff of all 3 tracks how is this possible? Where do i draw in the automation? Its not possible on each miditrack itself right? So how do i send the automation data? I guess i have to use the miditrack where the TI Plugin is but...i still don t get it how exactely do it for the 3 different sounds. Anybody likes to explain in a few words?
Thanx already!

Do you want the same cutoff automation on all three sounds, or separate automation on the individual midi tracks?mr.adl wrote:Hm, how can i automate things in the TI? It is very easy to do either. What version of Live are you using?
Oh, I've tried out the OS 3 and so far its rocking. No problems as yet.
Loving the tape delay.
No, that's actually pretty on-point and it's one reason I found myself coming close to selling my Polar a few months ago. I'm pretty comfortable with synthesis, but found the need for excessive window and menu diving pretty annoying at times. Came pretty close to trading the Polar for a more hands-on synth such as a Poly Evolver, or a Prophet 8, or even an Andromeda. But then again, the Virus Control plugin really makes a difference. It's EXTREMELY convenient and really helps speed up the workflow. I'll admit I still prefer to tweak my sounds "the old school way" (i.e., with the knobs, not with the software), but whenever I'm feeling lazy and don't want to do menu diving for some extra adjustments, I'll just pop over to the plug-in. It all depends on what mood i'm in.monstrejumo wrote: Virus Ti relly needs, IMHO, getting deep into synthesis and complexity knowledge, oherwise you could be stuck with using un-comprehensible presets... Hi and thanx for reply!
I will use Live 8 soon
I meant to use separate automation on the 3 midi tracks.
Good to hear the OS3 works fine for you, i saw the vid and the tape delay sounds really nice, especially good that they added the limiter (or whatever) to prevent getting the feedback sound to loud.

OK, your automation is recorded in the 'TI Master' track.
On Ti Master track in arrangement view, bring up Virus Ti in 'Device Chooser.'
Just hit Lives' global record button as normal, with the track highlighted on the 'Virus Control' plugin (in your case, track 1,2 or 3) and filter away.
Any envelope that has been recorded, will have a led (red dot) next to the parameter. Click on the 'Control Chooser' triangle (the small window under 'Device Chooser' window).
Your automation can be seen on all midi tracks separately in the 'TI Master' track by clicking on the plus sign (add automation line).
Hope that makes it clear mr.adl.
Cheers
Thanx man! That definitely cleared it for me
I thought you may not be able to see ALL automations, but this doesn´t seem to be any problem.
Will check out the TI as soon as it comes to Thomann (big musicstore in germany).
I really like the gui of he plugin, won´t use the hardware for tweaking that much i guess but who knows.
Best!
Thomas
