Is anybody using amplitube?
I've been running amplitube through live, and seem to max out my cpu recording one guitar/amplube track. Is anyone else having this problem? Or is it just my crap computer? At the moment I'm running a 1 ghz emac with 768 ram, with a Motu 828 mkII (I know it's worth more than my computer). I'm also running a low buffer speed because playing guitar with latency drives me insane.
I had been thinking about getting a powerbook, but if I'll be having the same problem on that i don't think i will.

I use amplitude on my PC - love it - gets amazing sounds.
CPU hit is not really that high at all, I am thinking 10% - 20% max, depending on how you have your EFX lit up or not

you just have to get used to resampling with it or you might be better having one machine for just guitar if you want to do it live (cheap PC for live?)- guitar rig is a beast too as are most of those emulator types of plug-ins
I have a decent chunk of processor but I wouldnt use guitar-rig in a live set with other stuff - for the latency as much as anything because you have the compounded problem of lower latency adding another hit on your CPU so you lose on 2 counts.

Anyone running amplitube on a G5? What's the performance like there?
I don't really want to spend the time learning my way around a PC at the moment, or I would just get an alienware (yeah yeah, over priced blah blah blah) Well there's that and I just honestly enjoy running osx.
I really prefer to shovel fx on my guitar after recording it, and record a dry signal for the utmost flexability. Because when I'm in creative mode I don't like spending time making an instrument sound good. I prefer to do that later during arrangement. That's why i like amplitube, I don't have to try. I turn on some distortion (or not) and record. Who cares what it sounds like I'll fix it later. It's a bit harder to do this when you record a wet signal from your guitar. That's why I'm really trying to sort out an economically feasable way to use amplitube.

alienware laptops are not that great if you read through the specs, pretty average for the price .. this one would be a lot better http://www.voodoopc.com/systems/advanced.aspx?t=2&p=350
also check out these laptops , the mobile athlon 64s..

L5500DF is what i would be getting, it has S/PDIF out as well, mobile athlons are best suited to audio applications.. bump the ram up to 1 gig and make sure the HD is 7200 rpm..macs benchmarks are toally flawed when it comes to audio applications, read the test on their site and you will see what i mean..

Sorry, I didn't specify. i didn't mean an alienware laptop, I meant one of the towers.
Either way though, I don't think I'll be getting one since, like I mentioned, I can't be bothered to learn my way around a pc at this moment. I mean Pc's ARE a possibility, but I'd prefer to stick with macs if possible.
