Live 8 - excited, but when I saw the word "collaborate"...

Post by looprication » Sun Jan 18, 2009 9:08 pm

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed that the collaboration still involved uploading and downloading. Especially with an all-MIDI type of setup, I hoped this meant somewhat real-time jamming over the Internet a la ejamming.com I'm not 100% sure how well ejamming works, but it's getting a lot of buzz.

Does anyone know of any other way to synch two Live sets over the Internet, and be able to play them simultaneously? I know you'd still have to have either the same soft synths loaded, have some sort of translation table for missing plugings or patches, or transfer the entire audio, but apparently it *can* be done. I'd think if everyone had Live running it would make things easier. I know there would still need to be some sort of subscription for the service, but hell, it would be neat, wouldn't it?

Having said that, I'm totally excited about Live 8, and looking forward to Ableton's innovations this year more than any other company.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

from what I understand latency is still somewhat of an issue that makes it impractical.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

I sure hope there's more to come, hehe!

But seriously, I know having some sort of massively multiplayer jam session with Live sounds like a pipe dream, and maybe it is. But if the first phase were limited to loops, I think it could be done.

I'm sure latency is still an issue, probably always will be, but I'm sure everyone will be looking over the shoulder of companies like eJamming in the future.

Its a great idea but its hard enough getting rid of all latency in your own rig. Imagine over the net. it would be a disaster
